Deleting inbox messages

Is it just me or does you guys have a problem deleting private messages?  The GUI at the bottom jumps around from left to right.  Does anyone else have this problem besides me?

Yep does the same for me Dennis. Its shifts to the right and then you have to keep the pointer in the drop down box or it will shift back to the left lol.

yes!  it's like an arcade game >>  LOL

I use to be able to delete message in my PM using my IPAD.  But now, I can't even do that any more.  Now, my IPAD locks up trying to delete the message.

Hey Jon, what's up with the PM GUI at the bottom page?  We can't delete messages.

It's crazy!  Easier if you open the message and delete each one.  Messages take up room, so clean out is very important.  The sent folder and the saved folders also get huge!

On my computer it's a nuisance but not too hard to delete multiple messages.  You just need to attack from the left! :)  In other words, come from the left side to click on the button and it will move to the right but just move the cursor over and "corner it" to where it doesn't move to the right any further.

Apple has too much of a cult-type following so I've not gone that route. :)

Well, I know Jon is working on finding a new forum software package to use without losing all the history that's here.  This one was good while it lasted.

Off topic a little, but when you are working on a trade with someone, it's important to save at least one message in the chain so you have a reference to remember your trade.  I'm glad I saved a few key messages because it's really helpful for someone like me who forgets quickly!  My inbox is now 86.5% full, and I need to go through and delete some duplicates.

Good tip Suzi.  Also, please add a subject when you're PMing someone.  I've accidently deleted PMs because I thought it was another email with no subject.

I wish I could email a group of my PMs to myself to another mailbox because this one fills up so fast.

chrome seems to work better when deleting PM. it jumps to right and if your catch it there, it will let you drop down and delete.

Suzi, I agree about saving one to remember trades.

Dennis, you could always copy and paste messages into a Word file quickly enough.

If you are having the jumping action window too, this is what worked for me -

get your mouse pointer over the window, the dropdown box opens. Instead of moving the mouse pointer down to your selection(which works anywhere else in the computer world), use the down arrow on your keyboard to highlight your selection (likely Delete or Move to Saved) and hit enter.

Good dexterity training for keyboard/mouse skills:)

I can't find the sent folder.  Does anyone know how to get to this?

Sent folder is found in a dropdown menu on the left side of the screen just above top gray border to the inbox.  Saved messages only work if you have checked the little box to save a copy of your sent email at the bottom.  Unfortunaltely all of the folders contribute to your total amt of space used, so you can't save unlimited numbers in your boxes.

I like the see-saw action in deleting but I may not miss it when it is gone. I find it less annoying than those twisted crooked confirmation numbers/letters that one has to guess and type in a box.

Each PM message takes about 0.25% of one's storage space (4 message per 1% of the space). There is enough space for normal PM activities (I don't know what is normal!). I add subject to the PM if I start PM or reply. I delete old PMs where the subject mater have reached conclusion. I believe there is enough space (for normal traffic!!) to keep PMs for current subjects. I delete some intermediate PM if 'Reply" mode has been used in PM.

I guess, everyone develops their own routine.

Found it, thanks Ed!

My PM is totally cleaned out but yet the bar at the top indicates: "7.75" and not "0".....  Is there a way to zero out the capacity bar?

Just curious.

Frank

Frank, are you sure there are no messages hiding in your Saved folder or Sent folder?  If not, I have no idea what that could mean.

this worked like a charm!!

Thank you so much.

Ed-

Did what you suggested.  Had no idea this section existed.  Now, I have "0" in PM files.  Thanks.

Frank

Don't know about iPad, but on my Android table, using Chrome, I can click the dropdown once, which causes it to jump to the middle, then I can click it again to open it and choose a selection.

Pete, Ed and others are right.  Chrome is better and IE does work but it helps to click and then arrow down to delete messages.  My problem is I use my IPAD and Android for just about everything.  I rarely use a PC or laptop unless I am at work.   Tablet PCs are so fast and convenient.  I carry my IPAD with me everywhere and I have 3G.  One day, I will get rid of my phone and just use my IPAD or tablet for everything.

I'm not a Windows guy.  I use to be before the tablets and IPAD came out.  I use to build PCs but not anymore.  Those of you still using desktops with Windows XP or 98....... its time to start tinkering around with tablets like IPADs, Kindle Fire HD and Android. Its the wave of the future.  I have an IPAD and a Color Nook that I converted to Android.  I love them both!  May be getting a Kindle Fire HD this summer!  What can I say?  I'm an IT guy!

One day, laptops will be no more and desktops will be too expensive to get parts or repaired.  I know Jon is planning on migrating to a new forum software package real soon.  Whatever he chooses, I know it will work flawless with tablet and app technology.  So, don't get left behind.  I am still in the compact disk world and today's technology is all about MP3 and cloud storage.  I have MP3s too but l love having that CD in my hand too.  Tablet PCs are so convenient and flexible.  And the same is true with smartphones!  I was one of the first people to buy the Handspring color Visor when it came out in 2000.  And guess what?  I still have it today plugged in on my desk.

I still have a Windows XP machine that I use for my Neat Scanner but I do not put this machine on the internet for security reasons.  But catch the wave, technology is a great thing!

Dennis, I use my Adroid Smartphone quite a bit but am still much faster with a keyboard than I can come close to with it.

I did get my wife a Fire HDX for Christmas but she doesn't have time to use it much other than reading.  Maybe I should have got one for myself.

Do you edit/process photos (i.e., color balance, contrast, sharpen, reduce noise) on a tablet?

Harvey, I use to before an upgrade occurred on this forum software. Now, it doesn't accept random pic uploads from my IPAD. So, I load them via Photobucket without modifying the photo at all. You just have to know how to load them here.

I narrow the page, so it wants to jump, but it cannot. the page is reduced to a 2" colunm. once that is done, check the boxes of what to delete and it does 25 per page... keeping it narrow is my trick.
