Deletion of Photos

Please, forum members....reconsider, whether or not, the deleting of your photos is absolutely necessary.

Too many threads are rendered useless without seeing the pictures that were originally posted with the comments.  It's like reading a book, only to find some pages missing.  Many times the accompanying photos are the whole point of the posted thread(s), illustrating, and explaining, what the poster is writing about.  Without the pictures, the threads becomes confusing.

A picture, IS worth a thousand words.

Thanks,

Frank

I think many of us use free photo hosting for our pictures and the space is limited unless you pay for more. So photos have to eventually be deleted to post more. Maybe we need to delete the entire post if we need the photo to make the post meaningful.

upload it to F4F from your harddrive. that way you don't have to delete them.

Thanks for the responses.  But what is finally done by the posters, should result in preserving, and keeping the thread as originally posted, including the accompanying photos in context.

Some member occasional fear that someone will steal their photos and they will end up on ebay. I think watermark will fix the thing. I agree with you 100% Frank some treads are just not good with out photos. So all photos that I posted are free to all to use them as you wish. If someone use my photos on ebay that seller will be questionable.

Frank, great point!  It is quite annoying to read a post that has deletions in it - either photos or text.  I end saying to myself  "Huh?"

I have to agree folks. It can be very disappointing and even annoying to be looking through a thread and realize that some of the best photos have been deleted. I've personally done searches specifically for the purpose of reviewing additional pictures of a given variety. Pictures that I knew had been there before. Only to learn that a member had deleted them. Yes, both disappointing and frustrating.

BUT, here is one of the main reasons (I believe) that some will delete their pictures after a short while. They may fear (for good reason) that other, oftentimes newer, members will bombard them with email and PM's with requests for that particular variety.

Granted, storage space or concerns over photo piracy may be genuine issues. But when the member has taken measures to cover both of those concerns, there can't be too many other reasons for deleting photos other than what I've mentioned above.

The above comments may be just my opinion but that opinion was formed by using good old logical deduction.

Good post Frank. I can't agree more.

It a known frustrating issue for a long time. As Jake said, it is because of deletion from free photo hosting site. As mentioned in a post, downloading using "Manage Attachment" is more appropriate to avoid frustration for future readers.

I can only agree with Frank and the other posters.
Dowloading using "manage attachment" saves the picture files to this Web site as note by others and OttawanZ5.
IMO the pictures are part of the Forum Membership contributions along with the posted texts. It will be used by current and future members.
The picture resolutions can even be reduced to to the point where the message can be conveyed, without the concern of theft (if that is a concern).

It's one of my pet peeves too. In some of the really old threads, it is because photo hosting sites, but a great many more photos have been deleted on purpose. Since one of my favorite things here has been looking at old threads to find out about particular varieties, it is very frustrating. But I guess the temporary irritation of having a few photos 'borrowed' is judged worth permanently destroying many old threads forever. It's a pity.

As the pleas for preserving the informational value of the original threads mount, including the illustrative photos, in context, as some members have suggested, there are ways to deal with photo "stealing" without having to delete the photos.

Please make every effort to keep the photos within the threads.  The threads, and the subject matter they contain, are not only for use by current forum members, but these same threads become reference material for future fig growers.  Others are in agreement.

Thanks for your considerations regarding photos.  (Think what a valuable asset the original Belleclare fig listings would have been if photos of the varieties were included).
