Desert King  breba was the first taste of figs for me in central NH this season.
The one that was ready yesterday was just the size of a quarter, but very ripe and richer flavored than I expected.
The next DK breba that are getting ready are much larger.
Plant is in its' 3rd season with only 20 breba remaining of the 35-40 that formed.
It is loaded with maincrop , too bad they need the wasp.
The plant came from a Desert King RT cutting from Jon at Encanto.

Very nice looking figs, we need to invent something that would mimic wasp.

I wouldn't think there would be so much time difference between MA and NH when it comes to Desert King breba.  Mine where ripe weeks ago.  There were only a couple though.

I ate my first VdB breba yesterday.  Desert King should produce next year.

That is good to know. I don't think you are too far away , Boston area ?
I wonder if the difference could be the particular strain of DK or the amount of main crop that formed could have slowed the breba ripening down.
Could have also been that I didn't start the "fig shuffle" very early.

Nice looking DK fig. DK is a very nice green fig IMO. I'm suprised more people don't grow it since it is so early.

Well those 20 Desert King figs were just great because I let them get really ripe. Good rich taste and a dark sugar sweetness.
