Thanks for sharing. What I heard him say is that he leaves old wood on one tree to a get breba crop while he prunes back the other to maintain size and shape, alternating each year. Therefore, if you want breba crops, you must have old wood.  His solution is to have two trees of the same kind to always ensure a breba crop.

Pretty accurate procedure. You can do that with one tree by pruning right after it bears the Breba on one branch.

I have 2 DK trees. Because by the time the breba crop is over, it is too late for tree to
prune and allow new wood to lignify sufficiently for winter. Here, DK brebas starts to ripen
mostly in August. Hence best time to prune would be when it goes dormant if one has 2 trees.
If not, the alternative is to use the pinching technique from summer till Sept. Most times, the
winter here will prune the trees where greener branches will be winter killed by the cold.

Harvey, have you had ripe figs on your Panache? If so, how do they taste? Also, how do you think it would do here
in the hot/humid south? We have 90-95 normal summer days and 106 last year for new record. Also, it is quiet
humid here.

Mike, yes, both my breba and main crop figs of Panache this year were excellent.  I even picked a last ripe one about 10 days ago that was pretty good.  The prior 2-3 summers had been cooler than normal.  I posted some photos in some thread somewhere here! :)

What is this pinching you speak of?  Do you pinch new growth on the tree to force it to stop putting out new growth so that you can somewhat maintain the trees size and also allow the new growth to harden off for the winter?

If you go back to around June in the forum, there are several threads that talk about pinching to control excessive growth and encourage fruiting of the main crop. I bet if you search "pinch or pinching" it'll give results.

Know what would be great, next time someone does some pinching......take a short video and post it on the site please.  Good for someone with less experience like myself.
