Desert King & Stella FIg Cultivar Opinions?

Just curious about these two cultivars.  I've read through several forum messages that seem to give these two cultivars the thumb's up.  Wondering how they will do in my temperate area, and are they worthy of a spot in my yard that has limited space?  I seem to like figs that are green on the outside, and red inside.  I know this is just a visual thing, but something about them is enticing.  I know Stella isn't in that category, but is sounds like a great fig.  I was considering purchasing one of each from One Green World, they have them both.  Any opinions would be much appreciated.

Desert King has another benefit. The brebas ripen early to be enjoyed while there is plenty of wait for the other to be ripened.
Thumbs up for stella too in my location. It ripens earlier than Kadota here.
This is my opinion for my location.

Thanks, Ottawan.  Appreciate the positive feedback.  I was interested in Desert King not only because of the color of the fig, but also that it has a good breba crop.  Always a bonus.  And I saw OGW carried Stella, too, so figured I might as well get two trees since shipping isn't much different.  My family is all from Canada, btw.  I lived off and on, growing up, in Vancouver, BC.  My mom grew up in Edmonton, Alberta (brrrr!).

I recently purchased both variety's from One Green World. They are both only about 18 inches tall so no fruit yet. But I will say they looked healthy upon arrival. Now from the time I purchased it took about 2-3 weeks before they shipped them. Then another week and a half to reach me here in Georgia. But the plants were healthy and descent size. Wish I could tell you more.

You might have read that Desert King is very popular in Vancouver BC.
Paully and others from BC mentioned so.

Stella is an excellent tasting fig. You will not be disappointed if you decide to grow it.

Jeff, thanks for the confirmation on OGW for figs.  I've purchased bare root stone fruits from them, and trees came in good shape.  Thanks, chrome, your mom's tree has a gorgeous shape!  What a beautiful photo.  Sounds like it ripens when my Panache ripens, so lots of green figs in August :-)

Desert King does well at my parents' house, which is located just northeast of the I-5/I-8 interchange in San Diego.

i have three deserk kings that i grew from cuttings in april. they got planted in ground in july. from july to october they grew three foot with three main trunks. i have yet to get any fruit they are young, but very vigorous growers as i have found here in zone 6b illinois

DK will ripen much earlier in zone 10 than zone 6. In a cloudy, cool summer zone 8 it ripens late July. A warm z 10 may see ripe fruits in June. Do you have the fig wasp? if so your second crop will ripen. Let us know, I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYONE TALK ABOUT THE TASTE OF THE SECOND CROP. (00PS)

if there is a fig wasp here i dont know about it.

Patty- I just sent you a PM- I should be able to set you up with some cuttings.
