did i crop this brown turkey correctly?

Hello all , I'm brand new to figs and i was wondering if i pruned this fig correctly.  I dont want a tree more than 8 ft in height and i think i cut too much on 2 branches.  I've let the other branches as is so that i can get a breba crop.  |What would you all suggest?  Thanks again

you'll be fine

Looks fine to me. Figs are pretty forgiving. I really had at it with a fig tree and a pair of clippers a few years back. The tree simply thumbed it's nose at me and grew back much bigger.

It's a brown turkey that the previous resident plants some 25 years back. I'll post picks of leaves and fruit this fall for confirmation. When we moved it it reached the second story window. Half that height now.

I have almost zero experience pruning figs, so I don't have any advice, but I do have a request.  If you remember, after all the new shoots pop out and are clearly visible (maybe two inches long), could you post a new photo here, hopefully with the same camera angle?  I am curious to see how the tree responds to the pruning.

It Looks like you did a fine job. Questions relating to the height you want to maintain. How tall is it now? Pictures without a size reference are difficult to visualize. What zone are you in? I am in zone 9b. How long is your growing season? Mine, all year this year with the exception of January. How many and at what times does the tree flush in a growing year? Mine usually three. Coming out of dormancy, June-July with the rains here, and late October after fruiting. I grow my trees in pots and also like to keep them around seven to eight feet. I had to watch and measure my trees the first year to get an idea of just how fast they will grow. Believe me when I say, here in zone 9b with good care they grow like there is no tomorrow.

I'm in Vancouver and we are in Zone 7a i believe and our growing season is basically from mid may to end of september so not very long.  The tallest branch is about 6 ft tall at the moment and what do you mean by tree flush?

Jaimele, i will take a picture at that time.

Thanks

Easiest way to understand flushing is growth spurts. My growing season is so long that fig trees grow then slow down. Then grow again, then slow down. Then grow again. For me trying to manage height is knowing how many feet they will try to put on in 10 to 11 months. Although different fig trees grow at different rates even when treated almost alike. They are close enough to use this knowledge to know when at what height I want to pinch the growing bud to start new branches. This helps me to get close to my desired height before dormancy and to know how much to prune off for the next year. I know to some people like my wife this seems excessive. However, I like to grow seven to eight foot tree look a likes in pots. Your season is short to me but at least you won't have to wait a long time to see how much your tree will grow in one season. Then you will have a better idea of how much to prune off next year. You can find flushing on this forum by doing a search if you desire a more detailed explanation.
