Did I kill it?

I was gone for the last few days.   Everything was fine except this one.  First picture taken over the weekend.  Second picture taken a few minutes ago.   Can't believe it.  I got home from work today and we're having more warm weather that I wasn't prepared for.

Being so late int he season, we're 2-3 wks away from things dropping their leaves.   Did I Kill it?  Not the way to end the season on a plant I'm sure, but just curious if anyone else has done this accidentally so late in the season.

It will be fine. just water well and put in shade for a couple days.

luke

Thanks Luke.   Probably we're more like 3-4 weeks away from leaf drop but still you want all that energy going back to the root zone.   Can't believe I spent all summer taking care of it and in one day, I screwed it up.   I'm glad my other varieties are good.

I agree with Luke, should be ok.

Thanks Barry.   It's probably going to drop more than half the leaves, but the growing tips should be OK, just hope it has enough energy to make it through the winter.

Just want to agree with Luke.  This happened with one of my VdB while away on vacation (thanks mom and dad!), but I expect it will bounce back with proper water and attention.

Ditto.  Keep it as cool as you can and maybe it'll go dormant.  Maybe a few ice cubes on the soil.

It'll be fine with some TLC. Don't make a habit of it!! ;-))

Or, you could put it up for sale on ebay as a unique curly-leafed, chimera cultivar and make beaucoup Franklins. ;))

been so busy last few weeks, i neglect my young trees often. some of them will go to that state if i'm even a day late on water. but they bounce back as soon as i water them. hardest part of growing fig seems to be learning not to worry too much.

Dan...

Two years ago, at just about this time, my dad became seriously ill, and required my constant attention.  I forgot to water my containerized "Atreano" tree for over two weeks, and the leaves looked like drying tobacco.  For sure, I thought, I killed my prize tree, or, that it would die a slow death through the coming winter because of lack of energy reserves still locked into the dead leaves, and not in the roots.  Far too late into the season for a new crop of leaves to re-grow...which probably would've been worse than no leaves.  I bit my nails.  I was distraught.  Crap!

I continued to water the tree well into late December, and then stored the tree in my unheated shed, as usual.  In the spring, the tree re-sprouted like nothing happened, and grew a great crop of figs that year.

Give your treelet some TLC, whistle a happy tune...and I'm sure it will pull through with flying colors.

Good luck.

Frank
