did i mention NC doesn't have much of seasons?

in case i didn't before.. today went up to above 90. it's sort of like.. winter, few days of mild weather.. then.. BAM SUMMER!!!

Oh, we Southerners get seasons.  Even the Louisianans have wet and dry seasons!  They just have to fear the occasional Icy Shermans every few years.  We have had two years of very high minimum temperature due to the weather phenomenon of a southeastern ridge through most of the winter, which only really went away late Feb and March this year, when we had such cold weather.  Last year, we did have a pretty severe frost late Feb, but still not very low.  Haven't been cold since 2011 and that ridiculous one week snowed under period in Atlanta.

northern VA same here this year is crazy. every year has been crazy in its own way the past few years

Yeap Pete, Spring has sprung and summer is around the corner! Yesterday and today it was 80 degrees in Charlotte! I've been scrambling trying to get my 87 thousand trees out of my garage. It's now 8:30 and I just came inside. I got about 80 more trees to pull out. Calling for rain tomorrow. But 80 again Friday and Saturday. I'll post pics tomorrow.

dennis, i only have about 50 trees. took me all of 10 min to move them into their places :) once my spring rooting is done, that will only push it to 65 or so. and then i'll be getting rid of duplicates as time goes on. that will leave me with 45 or so trees. and then i'll be getting rid of more trees as they mature and gives me the full taste profile. i'm thinking i'll end up with maybe 20 best among the ones i'm trying out. of course, if i strike lucky and win lottery, then all bets are off and i'm keeping all and getting more.. along with 5 acre of land.

I've tried my best to mitigate the weather ups and downs with microclimates, temporary barriers and minimal shuffle for the most special, smaller pots. So far, only a few scorched leaves. All losses were inside (gnats) this year.

And Pete, I, too, was on the plan to reduce numbers. Now, we are buying land, so looks like everyone is staying and going into the ground eventually. The addiction grows, but at least, I won't have to prune any roots. :)

John...

I know that, I am not many miles north of you , but my Well Sweep sure looks frozen /dead to ground level.
If it puts out any growth later, come get cuttings. Surprising, the Green Greek 12 feet away is alive and happy !
Even the Holliers are putting out tiny leaves.       Enjoy the hobby,  Fred

Good to hear from you, Fred. We'll have to get together in the near future for our regular exchange. I'm sure I've some new ones for you. Take care.

Send some of that warm weather my way.
Thanks

I'll still take it any day, over the short growing season we had in NE Ohio. Feet of snow and cold, wet, lingering springtimes. Blah!
