Different Celeste figs across the US

Good day, here are a few photos of my Celeste fig and JR's Celeste fig.  JR's figs interest me because based on Bass's page they look different than mine.  So, I just had to have a few to see how different they are.  This Spring, I bought 4 of JR's Celeste figs.  All of my Celeste fig trees are in the ground and they produce the same size figs every year.  They have a small bell shape to them each with a small little neck.  JR's Celeste figs are much fatter and much larger with almost no neck.  Both taste the same and are very sweet.  This Fall, I may place one of JR's figs in the ground and see how different they are again to mine in ground.  Either way, both are excellent tasting figs and I'm glad to have them.

The many variants I have are equally diverse, though you can often find many different shapes and colors on one tree, over the course of the season.

JR celeste is a nice fig. My in ground tree already has figs on it now. They are larger than the average Celeste.

Dennis do the two drop about the same amount of immature fruit or are they different? I constantly read on here about how many people have so much lost fruit due to it dropping from their Celeste. I have a Celeste that looks like your JR Celeste and it only drops about ten percent of its fruit. I saved it from the dumpster at a big box store. I have a few others that I got from Jon this year however they won't fruit for awhile. I have never seen one with bell type fruit. I remember the one my grandfather had. It had fruit that was like the JR Celeste.

These Celeste are from a ~ 35yo tree that is in full sun and no watering other than rainfall. These figs are ripe, but they have dried on the tree if a bird, insect,or 2 legged thief doesn't disturb them.As well as I can remember the tree doesn't drop fruit. For my tastes, the figs are too sweet to eat more than a handful when they dry out on the tree.

I had planned on taking some better photos, but a fig thief had stolen all the ripe figs at my last visit. grrrr (((

Charles, my in-ground Celeste does drop if it gets really stressed.  But it put figs back on as soon as the stress if over.  I've only had my JR Celeste a few months and have not experienced any fruit drop.  These trees are barely 24 inches tall!  These trees have the largest fruit of any Celeste I've seen or eaten.  I got 2 in ground Celeste trees and JR's Celeste is larger than mine.  I'm already planning on digging up about 4 trees this Fall.  I might be pulling out my Celeste trees too.  I need to pray about it.  :)
