Dip n Grow

Just wondering. My bottle of dip n grow is old and the paperwork lost. i mixed a batch up about a week ago and put it in a air tight tub in the fridge. my question is how long is it still usable after mixing? i normaly dont save it but am running low.

thank you
dave

The label states to use it within 10 hours.

oh poo. ok thanx harvey. guess i need to stop mixing so much. i was looking on ebay and found some water saluble iba i might start trying that in spring.

Interesting,
I was just wondering if anyone has done any recent comparisons of success rates with/without rooting hormones.

I have rooted just as good with out as i have with. it just makes me feel beter to use it, kinda peace of mind thing i guess.

I think most varieties probably don't need it but if you're dealing with something that is rare and/or expensive, I think it's good to use to increase your rate of success.

Dave, I recently bought 5 grams of the same stuff on eBay that you're talking about.  I previously had some in tablet form but that required bigger batches which was fine when I was doing hundreds of pomegranate cuttings.  The eBay seller provides a little scoop that is supposed to measure out .08 grams and a table.  To make 2000 ppm I mixed 3 scoops and 4 ounces of water.  My cost for this batch is about $.80.

For dipping cuttings i use something that I think was a flower vase for a carnation or something like that.  It's about 1.25" in diameter and 7" tall.  Ideally, I'd get something even narrower and a maybe 5" tall and I maybe would mix even smaller doses.

I use dip & grow but I always use 1:20 for older green wood, 1:50 for soft green growth and 1:10 for 2 year old wood.  I use a pill container 1-1 1/2" in diameter and use 1-3 drops of the dip & grow depending on how many cuttings I have to treat.  I'm starting a trial rooting 2 similar cuttings one with, one without.  I often just do 1 side of the bottom so if it's too strong I don't lose that much.  Note that I'm using it at half the recommended strength.  I had trouble with it at the recommended strength.  By only using a few drops of the dip & grow it lasts a loooong, looong time  :)

Bob, at doses that weak I think you could just make some tea from willow branches and do as well.

I use a product called Wilson's Roots which is a liquid gel 0.4 iba with fungicide. I've had good results with other types of cuttings. I used it on some fig cuttings last week and will see how it does compared to those I didn't apply it to.

I use Dip N Grow with all my cuttings and must have overlooked the 10 hour line in the directions.  I mix it up as directed and have been reusing "saved"  mix stored in another bottle.  Not sure if I will continue that practice.

I found that using it at the recommended strength killed the tissue it was applied to.  Half has worked well.

The reason why I've used Dip-N-Grow less often is because of it's high alcohol content which does damage to cells, I've read.  But one individual with quite a bit of experience in rooting pomegranates (R. Ashton of Texas) indicated in an ebook he wrote that he uses it full strength.
