Do figs mutate?

I wonder if figs tend to mutate easily.

Supposedly the will mutate somewhat easily. However, I don't see to many "sports"  being offered for sale. Also, because they are so responsive to their environment, it is really hard to know if there is a mutation. Panache was a sport of something, and often a branch or two on a tree will revert back to no stripes, hence my :"Reverse". It is "one gene" different than Panache, in USDA / UC Davis testing.

Hi Cbalducc,
look at my avatar picture.
I talked to the fella that sold me this plant before purchase and after purchase.
Very expensive at the time a 6 inch dormant stick i took a big chance in its purchase.
He said mother tree was found in woods of Japan by his collectors with 1 branch that had according to him (not me) a mutated branch that had variegated leaves. There thinking is what happened was it is a gene that woke up.
Make a very long story short without boring anyone cause i could talk all day about this plant is that it has variegated wood as well exactly like panache does. I have yet to get a fig but 1 did appear last season that was all green on an all green leafed branch, i have yet to see one on a variegated leaf branch.
Im doing my best to study this plant for next several years before doing anything with it .
