Do I have a problem?

  • JR

So is there a Fig-Aholics Anonymous, because I think I may have a problem.  I don't know how it all started, because first I'm on the internet (which I rarely am since I'm a computer dinosaur) browsing around and then next thing I know I'm on your F4F website for a looooong time (way too long....).

Then I'm buying scions off of Ebay from some guy in Turkey... and hunting around obscure nurseries... Days later I'm STILL on the internet and my eyes are burning and I'm itching to post to the forum but until that point I had no idea what a "forum" was  (thanks to my wife for patiently teaching me).  I went shopping until I found the Root Riot propagation kit you were all talking about and I had to go down some darkened back alley (literally) to get it from a hydroponics dealer... and they were extremely helpful but I think they weren't used to dealing with an obsessed fig grower wannabe.

For the last 2 days I've been pulling a Bill Murray Caddyshack-style gopher hunt, clearing potential tree locations for my future trees.  My wife is beginning to worry but I've ASSURED her that I do NOT have a problem.  What?  It's only a tree... well, 2 trees... okay, 3 trees and some sticks from a guy in Turkey... It's been a rough week (but at least I didn't black out... I don't think...).

So thanks to my wife for taking some photos of my new Root Riot propagation set-up with some cuttings from a questionable black mission that I started some years back.  I've included some photos!  (Okay, SHE'S included the photos.... but I asked her to...)

No problems detected JR!  :)

Funny post. Thanks for sharing.

I cannot see the photos. :(  I only see the dreaded red X

"Hello, my name is Dan,
and I'm a fig-a-holic!"

And darn happy about it too!  :)

Thanks to all who shared with me!
God Bless you!

Too funny. I played hooky today from a prior engagement. I've been sick all weekend so that's my excuse. Not a lie. But then I thought... hey,... I could go to a hydroponics store and get me some root riot tray stuff. So I dragged myself in. I look awful and sound even worse. "Hey, buddy, got any <looks around> root riot? It's for fig trees" he seriously looked at me like I had lost my marbles.

And I think I have.

Welcome to the club. You're in good company.

Ebay is like that evil dealer on the corner...beckoning... just one more... thank God I'm a computer dinosaur and I have to ask my wife for help when I make a purchase!!

BUT the good news is that I now know what "caprification" is, thanks to my endless hours on the computer and this fabulous forum!  So thanks for the tip, Eukofios.  Ya know, if I can just work that word into everyday conversation I would REALLY look smart.

Problem?  What problem?  Who has a problem?  WE don't!

Just had a thought...

Next time anyone finds themselves in a hydroponics store and feels a little uncomfortable, here's some fig names to throw around: Lebanese Red, Good Leaf, Golden Seedless, Santa Cruz White, Small Green Red... just tell 'em you're growing that and they'll never know.... :)

Come on over Jr,

You'll fit right in with us. HeHeheHe.

What do you call a fig addict that don't want to break the habbit. A drunk becomes a alcoholic when they go to aa. If they never go then they are just a drunk. So with us and figs what are we if we don't do the figaholic thing. That's what I am. And love it.

I started with 2 trees. Then I found this site and lurked for awhile..Then I signed up and I'm here EVERYDAY.. Reading and learning..
I think I was one of those people who was bidding on that $100 fig stick. Thank goodness I was outbid, because I wouldn't know how to explain that to the man of the house. I did win a more reasonable fig tree and the seller was kind enough to send me extras. That kindness sent me into a fig whirl wind!!! Then I bought two trees from grow organic.com. I ordered the plugs and realized that I had some from last year from my veggie growing endeavors so I have to send those back. The man looks at my sticks and then looks at me. I am a fig addict.
You are not alone.
Resistance is futile..

Just because I haven't shaved in months, showered in weeks, and my teeth are falling out, doesn't mean I have a problem! Now get off my back, I'm trying to save this cutting!!!

Welcome JR. You're among those who can relate ;-) .
