Danny ,just a thought about your mobile fig orchard.
I recently saw a photo on someone's food blog. It was at Luckett vineyards in Nova Scotia ; fig tree on a pallet , in a large harvest bin ,like you might see for apples or in this case, grapes.
Very mobile if you have a tractor with pallet forks , no blow over problems ,plenty of root space , sub irrigated or not . For storage , store the whole thing or have smaller pots ,with holes in the sides, planted in the container ,that can be dug out each year , making storage easier.
Marius posted ( or maybe paully posted about his visit to Marius) pictures of a large bin he made that is similar to this idea they use at Luckett vineyards.
Sorry, pictures of a nice flat field like that ,get my farmer thoughts going.
