Do You Need Growning Pots?

Today, I called my Local Nursery and ask them if they had any used, 3 Gallon  growing Pots and they said "yes, how many do you need"...I said, well, how much are they, the lady said 75 cents  for used ones! I told them to put me 50 back, when my Wife  and I got there, they loaded them in car! Yeeee Hawwww...So, if you need growing pots, check with your local nursery! Hope this helps someone! Oh yea, they were the thick plastic.. : )

Fantastic idea! Thanks so much for sharing!

Have over 300 of them . Asking is free ah..

Was just trying to help our members here. Everyone can't be as lucky as you and get them Free... Most Nurseries will not give them away Here !

I think it depends on the "nursery."  If it is an actual nursery, then they have to buy these pots in the first place and would probably be looking for a fee to offset that.  If it is a "garden center" that doesn't really grow any of its own product...then they may have accumulated stacks of pots from plants that died -- and they might be more willing to let them go for nothing.

I'd say keep calling around.  The nurseries here have to pay to get their pots hauled off so they save $$ and generate good will by giving them away free.  It was the same when I was living in OR.  Over the course of the growing season I could easily get 1000 3 and 5 gal pots.  I couldn't begin to guess how many thousands of 1 gal pots were available.  I've picked up 100 in a day for friends and left 3-5 times that many behind.  It may be different in smaller towns where there's less competition or with smaller operations that find it cost effective to wash and reuse pots.

The wholesale nursery we buy from recycles their pots and you get a discount if you bring a pot back to them.  We don't need pots often.  Most plants are in ground, but the discount is great :-)

If you have a landscaper, ask them. They will prob deliver them. If you don't have a landscaper, just pick up the phone book and call one. The phone book is that big yellow thing that keeps your basement door open. It's where people used to find information before "Siri."
