Does it really matter where the cut is made on the scion when rooting? Does a cut made at the node of the stem have better success while rooting, or does it not matter?

With my limited experience, rooting about 400+ cuttings, I agree with Peter. I have had more success with cuts just below the node.

If this is true then if you are taking two cuttings from the same branch, you should cut the stuff in between the nodes and throw it away.  Because anything above the highest node is also useless and invariably dies off. 

Right?  Thoughts?

Rob, you need to leave a stub above the highest node sufficient for the cutting to heal over so the top bud doesn't get damaged.  I like to leave at least 1/2".

I think that it where sealing the cutting would come in...

Although most of my cuttings root at the nodes, I have one cutting rooting right now that is rooting at the nodes and everywhere in between.
