Does eating partially ripe fig cause swollen lips?

The summer and the warm season is gone and there are many partially ripe figs on the plants. I ate a few last week and got swollen upper lip for part of the day. A week later I ate a few which were sweet but showed whitish latex at the branch end. I got swollen lower lip. Now I am afraid to eat even a bit more than partially ripe fig.
This did not happen in warm weather when impatiently I used to eat not-fully ripe figs.
I am aware of the effects of fig latex on the outer body skin. One way to avoid this is to just not eat the fruit of labour at this time of the year if not fully ripe (hard to find one at this time of the year in my location when the leaves are dropping). Someone here suggested to wash the mouth right away so latex effect is minimized.
Any other suggestion or a quick remedy to avoid swollen lips?

It's called fig-lip! Been there, done that. Can't believe I am so sensitive to figs but that isn't stopping me. If I die of anaphylactic shock, I die happy. ;-)

Hi Akram,
i would say dont eat them if you can see latex like you mention as this seemed to effect bad for you, i just dont see latex when i pick my figs i suppose because there very ripe at the time of picking.
I do understand your feelings of seeing one on tree near ripe late in season but just not there yet and the temptaion to eat it.  ; )

Perhaps if brave enough even if you see the latex  after picking fig cut some of the end part off fig where it met tree and then run under water either whole of cut in half.

Im sorry but i have no better definitive answer only something for you to try.

Akram,

I've had my share of eating non-fully ripe figs but never had any problems.
Many here have complained about the latex but I never had any issues with it. Maybe I'm immune to it, Just don't know.

Ottawan, In the summer when I was eating many figs
I found that if I peel the figs I could eat many more
without any problems. Try peeling, Happy Eating!!!
