Dogs like sticks

The experiment was a flop. They needed more babying than I was willing to provide at this time so I pulled them out and tossed them into compost. It wasn't much of a loss for me as I needed to prune the blueberry bushes back so it was happening regardless. My online research told me it's possible to root this way, but it's hard. They're pretty temperamental. I may try again next season.

Here's a little update on the chewed up twigs - one of the two has roots so that's something, right? It's the next stage I find the most challenging though... we'll see if I can get the darn thing to live past the temperamental, bratty, stage (the humidity stage).

Good luck!

Despite the difficulties, you still manage to make great photographs, Nichole...

How well do the blueberry plants root in the root riot cubes. I am interested in increasing the number of plants that I have.

Your dog has good taste.

Dogs will sometimes gnaw the aluminum tags and allso pull them off.  It is good to sometimes triple id the fig.  Write on the pot, tag on a limb and a tag on the pot..  Nicole, if both of your gnawed cuttings, root, your dog may have done you a favor, hope for the best outcome :-).

well.. my puppies learned not to go into the study, but they are allowed in the garage. they chewed up Socorro Black, Niagara Black and St. Rita. one of the Socorro Black is a goner. they pulled it out and chewed pretty good on it. but St. Rita and Niagara Black is coming back nicely in 1 gal pot. stil have one Socorro Black left that is doing well.

While a little late on this topic, I know of a man in So. Cal that sells fig branches as dog chew toys! They must really like them.

All the animal pix are great.  It looks like fig folks take extra good care of their animals as well as their trees.

Yeah, your dog certainly has good taste.  I love how your pictures tell the story.  I second multiple tags.  I've had one chewed up myself. By my goat. lol  But I'm glad I had a second tag on the plant.

Here's another update.

Both of the dog chewed cuttings now have roots. The one on the right is getting cocky trying to grow roots into the air.
Greenhouse will be completed Monday and many will get potted up that day after work.

Nichole, I grew many with air roots. It seems like the atmosphere right above the cubes is just right for rooting.
"gene"

Hmmmmmm....dog saliva rooting hormone...I never would have thought! ;)
