Don't think I've been sold the right fig...

Hi all,

Got my first fruit off of my 'White Marseilles' recently. It's about 2-3 years old and this is the first crop I've got off of it the breba all dropped). The issue is that I don't think it is a White Marseilles and am suspicious that I may have got a Brown Turkey instead. Could someone confirm that

1) WM doesn't change flesh colour as it matures
2) WM doesn't have any brownish tinge to the skin

If I can confirm that it's been wrongly labelled then I can go back to the nursery, though not sure how much comeback I have after over a year!

Pics below:

Picture of the leaves?

Nevertheless, the first pic...it looks really good. Is that what BT look like? I have never seen one in person.

It sucks though... wanting something and growing it for a while just to discover it's Not what you wanted ;/

To be honest I've no idea whether brown turkeys look like this or not, it's just the most common tree sold in the UK by a large margin and the most likely candidate for a mix up. Most garden centre photos tend to show a dark purple fig with red flesh, though I'm certain they're just using a stock photo of a generic fig. I'd have more faith in this pic from Reads, as they specialise in figs http://www.readsnursery.co.uk/products/Fig-Brown-Turkey.html - I must say the fruit looks pretty similar

It's dark outside now (and usually dark when I get in), but I'll try and get a pic of the tree at some point before all the leaves drop off! Will probably be the weekend, though.

Hi woodenman,
NOT BT .
My two cents go to Brunswick or "Goutte d'or". My "Goutte d'or" looks like that with those cracks on some figs.
Pics of the tree and of the leaves would help.

All I can say looking at fruit ,is that is not White Marseilles.
The interior is like English Brown Turkey, the exterior like English BT,taken out before fully ripe, but to be sure I need leaf, large mature leaf, and a quarter coin,or something similar in size(one inch diameter),to figure the size of fruits, and tell for sure.

Brunswick

I was thinking Brunswick too, but the leaf pick would completely confirm that.

Don't look like my brown turkey. Maybe it's not brown turkey.

Nipped out before heading to work to take a snap. Looking at my other Brunswick I have a suspicion that it's most likely another Brunswick now.

The nursery I bought it from only stocked Brunswick, White Marseilles and BT, so it's much more likely to be one of those.

:-/ - going to have to contact them about a tree they sold me 1.5 years ago and see what they'll do!

If that is the tree in the pix you got Brunswick

Brunswick. Well, if it ripens under good sunny weather, it is awesome tasting. Glad I did not kill
off all my Brunswick.

Well it's been my best-performing tree this year (not saying much!), though I already have another Brunswick so don't really want to waste my precious space on 2. Sent them an e-mail saying they've sent me the wrong thing so I'll see what they come back with - hopefully a straight refund without needing to pack it up and send it back, as that'll be a pain to post. Thanks guys.

If you are in London, I would highly recommend King (Desert King).  They should ripen in your cooler summers.

Here are some pictures from my King fig (sorry for the fuzzy pic)...
