Dalton Durio/DURIO NURSERY has released the new list of available figs for 2015-2016.  Great selections including.... wait for it....Belleclare's- "ATREANO" (the original).

Take a good browse through the list.  Get out the check book/credit cards.  The web-site includes the characteristics of the available figs.

Hi Frank, for some reason I cannot find an updated list with an internet search - just the same page on their website that has not changed since 2010.  Atreano is not mentioned there.   Can you provide a link?

Here is the list you guys are looking for.  Dalton sent it to me last week.  Like Frank said, Bellecare's Atreano is on the list.  It is an excellent cultivar.  Mine is over 8yrs old in the ground.  It is a fast growing tree so if you don't have much room, don't waste yout time trying to grow it.  It will take over!  

Toni's Brown Italian is also on the list for 20 bucks!  I know some folks have been looking for it.  Its another excellent cultivar.  It reminds me of a super sweet brown Italian Honey.  So, here's your chance to get some fine hardy fig cultivars!  Calling Dalton is a was of time.  He prefers you send him an email.  Trust me.  Be blessed!

I got the new list as well on Oct 24th in response to an email I sent him on July 9th asking if he had 4 varieties in stock that I was ready to order. Yeah, kinda slow, but he seems to have a nice selection at reasonable prices.

I have already bought two of the varieties else where that I originally inquired about from Durio but talked myself into two more making my order still at four.

I am going to give it another try. I hope he responds this time.

Thanks for doing what I couldn't....i.e. providing the Durio Fig listings.

BTW...I gave Dalton wood off my Atreano-Belleclare so that he could propagate this variety.  My original "Atreano-Gold" trees (purchased back in July-2007) came from Zaino's Garden Center, Westbury, NY (Long Island), and the owner of Zaino's was a neighbor of the Belleclare Bros.  I believe the Atreano-Gold from Zaino's was propagated from Atreano-Belleclare wood.  (My original Atreano-Gold trees were killed in the Winter 2012-2013).

Anecdotal story, but I got this Atreano-provenance information from a very reliable source, and member of not only this Figs4Fun Forum, but also a posting veteran of the old "Garden-Web Fig Forum".  He's been around the fig block a few times, and has been posting for years.  He also knows the Belleclare Bros, personally.

Frank, my Atreano and Atreano Gold came directly from Bellclare. There was a guy in NC who sold me my 2 trees. Be told me about Bellclare before folks were talking about Bellclare. Back then, I didn't know who they were. Back then he was geting rid of his BC collection and offered his trees to me. I declined and he sold them all to Bass. Today I am kicking myself for my lack of knowledge.

My 2 Atreanos are in the ground. Both bounced back from from our harsh weather but Atreano Gold is not doing well. I'm gonna wrap them both this year and do a better job taking care of them from now on.

The Atreano Gold in my cutting offer is the one from Dalton.   I bought a 1 gallon plant from him 2 years ago.   Pretty nice fig.

There are a few post out where some folks say atreano and Atreano Gold are the same. But they are not.

Frank, I wish I were close to Zane's! I just went out and checked my Atreano Gold in the ground was doing and it's dead. I gota get another one later some day.

A lot of great sounding figs.  Some are not on their (old) catalog listing that describes the varieties. 

Does anyone have experience with the LSU Everbearing - we never hear much about it?

And the Brown Greek, Purple Passion, Green Italian and Red Italian that are listed - anyone growing those?  Are they synonyms for other figs?

Dennis has posted about King Arthur in the past - any more info on this one?  Origin?

Ed, I have just about all of those listed by Dalton.

Brown Greek is one superb fig.  It's not brown turkey.  It ripens late around the first of Sept.  The figs are large and the tree is very prolific.  

Purple Passion is a large purple fig.  It was found at a estate sale at a location way down south Texas.  Fig are very large, sweet but not that great.  Tree puts out a lot of figs though!

Green Italian is just a green fig slow grower.  Mine is 2 years old and has not fruited yet.

Red Italian is very common.  It might be the same as Sal Corelone.  Large round red figs with an amber center.

King Arthur is a good one.  It produces late in the season around the first of October.  Brown figs tight eye, sweet and very hardy.

Frank, you're a perfectionist like me!

Dalton's "Red Italian" is not like Sal's Corleone (which is the same as Schar Italian, a known splitter).

I also sent Dalton some propagation wood, from my original "Red Italian" (unidentified) trees that came from Mount Vernon, NY.  This is a small reddish-black fig, deliciously sweet, and probably is another Mt. Etna type fig, so nothing new here, but it was fairly hardy until trees were killed in 2012-2013 winter.  It can split in rainy weather.  There are better Mt. Etna type figs to be had.  Inferior to Hardy Chicago/Bensonhurst Purple.  I grew Red Italian in containers since 2007 without any winter problems, but bad winters kill trees.

Thanks Frank.  Does that Italian Red have brunswick type leaves?  I wonder if its the same one that John McMillian of Almost Eden sells.

Hi Dennis-

The Red Italian leaves look like the leaves from a Mt. Etna type fig.  Hardy Chicago-ish shaped, thick, leathery, and dark, spinach green.  Brunswick usually has those deeply divided, finger leaves.  You could never mistake the RI for a Brunswick.  I have no photos to post of the original trees.  Sorry.
