E- bay record. Dall Osso went off $1025

WOW! What a price for a fig tree. Dall Osso just sold for an amazing $1,025. Congratulations to the seller.

Thats close to the record. 500 dollers shy. Italian 258 still holds the record of 1500.00. Lol

what would be the price per inch? per ounce?

I certainly cannot afford those figs

I like the figs i get for trade. They always taste better

A fool is born every minute they say..............

Jealousy is so ugly, you should be happy for both the seller and the buyer, the seller had a product and the buyer thought it was worth the price.

I could see paying that much for a tree. People pay thousands to travel on vacations around the world. When they get back, all they have are some photos and memories. However, a tree is a companion that stays with one for life and is shared with generations to come if it is fruitful and delicious. Why not?

No wonder I can't find Italian 258. I was wondering why I didn't see it anywhere.

Good to see a rare tree go for this much. To some people this is not much money for such a rare specimen. If Olya would ship to CA. I would have paid her more than winning bid. Some of us are trying to build our collection of rare figs and don't mind spending to get such a rare variety.

I hope it's for the tree and not the cutting! I'll wait a few years for those varieties. I do wonder how something which roots and grows so quickly can sell for such high prices. I'm wondering what makes a particular fig the new "it" fig. I'm not criticizing, I'm just curious. I'd be more than happy if I were the seller of that variety.

The fine for leaving out the apostrophe is 15% of the selling price of the fig  ;)

And let's not judge each other - not for what we buy nor for what we wont.  How many thousands of dollars have we put into out fig growing?  For some charismatic people they get given a lot of things but still have to buy supplies for their cuttings & trees to survive.  For others there are plane trips, time & schmoozing in foreign lands to get rare figs.  For others fighting harsh conditions there's lighting and winter protection expenses.  It's nice to recoup some of those.  I personally don't have that kind of money to spend on a cutting (yet  :- ).  From what I hear from people who own boats a fig plant may be a better investment from both a financial and enjoyment standpoint and $5000 for the next one is nothing compared to the price of a boat..

Well said, Bob.

Hey, it is all the buyer and seller, it did not effect my finances at all. I have several nice figs right now that will keep my mouth full and happy. Good luck and good selling for Olga(Olya), she just sold the plant for what a buyer was willing to pay. I will wait a couple of years and buy one, maybe everyone else will have one first, but that's okay. I will just have to settle for what I have. By the way, 2 years ago I really wanted Maltese Falcon, CdD Grise, and Genovese Nero(real one) but could not afford the going rate, or what others were offering to pay, I now have all for an unbelievable low price and I also have many more varieties of the same quality. So be patient, enjoy what you have and the time will come when you will have the un-affordable.

I was just be funny not mean. Lol. But i do like a good trade now !!! Hint hint ( olga )

If fig cuttings and trees keep this up they will be out of my reach.

There will always be trading or cheap buys here.
I am new hwre and made trades here and elsewhere

Personally, I'm into rare but, I think pons figs are better then the dall'osso.just my opinion.

Have you?

Ok, I just thought the fig itself looks weird but, I guess it's the taste not the look.

Mystery tree. Best wishes to the purchaser!  that is quite some cash. I could never afford such treat. Nor would I pay that that if I had the money... But to each his own!
Glad someone is making some nice $  :)

There is only 1 Dall-Osso and this isn't it. Sounds to me like someone decided to cash i on the name. In fact so far I dont think anyone can even confirm that a real Dall-Osso even exists. I hope this turns out to be a good fig anyway.

Hi,
That fig is all about its look, not its taste from what I've read and seen in pics.
Still as a collector, such an acquisition can be fun, so live and let live .

I'm the owner of the Dall 'Osso on ebay, I bought my tree from olya 2 years ago, rooted a cutting on it this past march. So far I have seen no fruit from the mother tree yet (which is not uncommon). I bought this tree from Olya and have complete trust in her word. Like a lot of the posts above I agree that any fig tree is worth only what someone is willing to pay for it. Please bid with your head and not over it.
