I don't know about the "ebay police", lol
but in New Jersey, selling an intentionally mislabeled product violates criminal law.

It is fraud and should be punishable by law to purposely mislabel something and then put it up for sale. Not sure this guy is purposely doing that. He may have been duped as to the fig's identity. 

This is just my opinion,

He's arguing his case! I think in a wrong way but he's arguing his case.
As a seller, he needs to show a little profesionalism and refrain from chosing some of his words. Everyone has his or her critics, just have to learn how to handle it. But I applaud him for fighting back.

What he doesn't know that this forum is made up of people from all walks of life. Doctors, lawyers, police officers and firefighters etc. etc. from all over the globe. So saying to us we don't have a life was probably said out of anger? I don't know. But I invite him to come back and see for himself who or what we are.

Maybe, just maybe. He feels in his heart of hearts he has the real deal?

Even though Dan_La and I never crossed paths in any way, shape or form. Dan failed to tell him he was kicked out of both forums. Dan did not leave on his own!
So for Dan to go to the seller on ebay and trash talk about this forum is well? TRASH!

Rafed: Well said!   Man, this is just about figs.  Can you believe how worked up people can get.  Just like life in general, isn't there more than enough misunderstanding, hatred, and poor communication going around in the world. We need more people like you and the "cream" around to calm people down.   Thanks for bringing back the peace.

On the brighter side, I just spoke very nicely with the Lowe's store manager about a guava I bought almost 2 years ago (they only have a 1 yr guarantee on their plants) and told him that it produced fruit that wasn't the same as the named cultivar it was sold under.   He agreed to give me a full store credit for it and didn't even need to look at a picture or any proof that it was the wrong tree.   I wasn't going to get mad if he didn't give me anything, but as long as you try to act like a person, you will be surprised how well people will treat you.

I really think that the ebay seller has been duped and is just defending what he thinks to be true.... but with all the interested people giving him their well known knowledge that he should take a step back and look into all the information and he'd see that his trees are in no way ronde de bordeaux. Rafed....you said it best....thank you.

wow.. that's some talk from dan. i thought he was ok guy. his peat pot method is still the method i use for rooting. oh well.. i didn't really follow why he left, but i guess he won't be coming back anytime soon.

It's hard to believe that Dan la did that and that he is telling the seller he has the real deal, I couldn't compromise my integrity for the purpose of being vindictive and I certainly wouldn't want to open up those old wounds again if I were him. Rafed, I'm impressed!

Well my job is done on this site, I succeeded to get all of you, little people, all roused up (my eyes are all teary), that was my initial intention, I don't even have a GD fig tree or like figs for that matter, too bad that in the process I made it possible to extend your meaningless life, you guys must be a genetic mutation, perhaps  have sex with figs??

This makes me want to give as many RdB cuttings to people as I can when the tree is ready (it's not much more than 3 small branches right now) so that people can enjoy it without getting duped.

I am not saying that any person is cheating or not, but I do know that figs are big business on Ebay.  I alerted my friend to it years ago as he is a propogator. 

Varieties like the RB are perrennial (on the more expensive side) sellers, so the competition is high.

I have bought other plants and other figs from ebay, and I do know that some are not what they are stated to be, whether the buyer meant to or just made a mistake. (which happens).  Some you don't know are a mistake until way later too, which is disappointing for the most part.

As a buyer of plants, I really enter with an attitude that I try and do my own research from what is presented and the person selling (or if its a nursery which will give be better support if there are issues) and make a decision and if I buy, I may be disappointed later.  I wish it were perfect and I was never disappointed, but thats sort of the attitude I have with plants from ebay.

I try to feel better knowing I have also supported a plant person making a living. :-)

It is very fortunate that today we have the internet.
In the past the person that shout louder ,making a better propaganda about their product will win and sell ,better making a fortune.
The internet makes it possible that the buyer has a say in it,and  positive testimony by buyers (not by seller),determine the value of an item.
Ronde de Bordeaux,and other premium cultivars are more expensive because buyers found them superior to other cultivars,so that is good for ,the fig tree as a plant,because it means that the inferior cultivars will slowly be discarded and more superior cultivars will take their place.
Later on the very premium cultivars will be very affordable as the price goes down,when many people grow it.
Selling an unknown cultivar as a premium one is not fair and it does harm the buyer.

Yup I wish all sellers were as careful/knowledgable...I agree.
