I have 2 large 2 years old Ronde de Bordeaux figs and i wanted to list them on E bay,but I have competition! By someone selling a fig that is clearly not Ronde de Bordeaux. Buyer be aware. Just search on Ebay, for Ronde de Bordeaux and you will find someone selling a cultivar that makes brownish figs, nothing like Ronde de Bordeaux. It all ready got seven bids,so ,it looks like deception works, just do not be one of them. However there is another seller, KK,that sell small starter plants and he is legit, and sell genuine plants,so you can buy from him,if you want one. Ronde de Bordeaux fruit and leaf look like this:

ThX for the advisory. I am NIPPONDD on Ebay, if you ever see me list a non-truth or anything approaching that please advise me. It would be a mistake on my part and never an intentional act to deceive. First off it isn't enough money to sell my integrity secondly, it is too much hassle to correct it. As you can see if you look at my listings, I have 100% positive feedbac with over 1000 transactions. Thx again

He sounds like he is either a forum member or has had people write him to take it down. There are some leaves that look fairly similar but that fruit looks nowhere near it. Looks too big.

Sounds like he/she believes they have an RdB. Unfortunately, they make claims not supported by facts. RdB does not have basal lobe auricles, it does not produce "very large" fruits, the color of his fruit does not match what he/she writes, RdB has open eyes (ostiole) and RdB rarely produces a breba crop. Other than that, I would eat those figs (just not for that price!). Curious...no pulp shots.

I hope I got the right seller. I asked for authenification and verification and guarantee, we'll see. I don't know a RDB from an ABC, but anybody should be able to provide where it came from and how it was represented. I am selling the LSU Gold cuttings, this tree was verified by a trusted forum member and if ever questioned on the pedigree I would offer that answer. If that was not enough, I would return the money and pull the item until I was absolutely sure. It goes to Due Diligence on the sellers part. I will reserve judgement untill I get answer from the seller. I guess I take the issue of selling on Ebay way too serious as we have been doing it a long time and IMO Ebay certainly needs to police their listings, they used to.

Ebay selling should be taken seriously. Too many people get taken advantage of and Ebay seems to not care. Not to frown on anybody selling, now that I stopped buying, when I did, it was only from well known sources.

Hello Vasile, I posted on that one a couple days ago. I even contacted them a few times to let them know it was not Ronde de bordeaux. There reply was that they went to Cornell University to have identified. They said someone took three weeks to make the ID, and that the reason why the fruit is not dark is because of the region is different then France. The person at Cornell probably has never even seen a fig tree. They told me if i didn't have a degree in the field that they will call it what they were told. My best advice to all, buy from a member to get what you pay for. luke

Thanks Herman. Too many folks on ebay selling inaccurate plants and too many giving their unknowns bogus names. I've never sold a fig on ebay but I'd like to think I could if I wanted to and the fact that there are folks checking the adds for accuracy makes things better in every way.

Ebay has gotten too large. They can't, or don't have the will to police it. Or both. At this point in time, I generally won't spend more than $10-20 there unless it is from someone I know. As to figs on ebay, at this point in time, I would only buy from a scant handful of people. Being a member here or GW is not enough - they must have a long and proven track record. But that's just me.

Luke , Did they identify the person at Cornell who identified the fig as RdB ? Perhaps they would like to know that they got the ID wrong or could say why they came to that conclusion.

Herman2 is correct guys. That tree on eBay is Not Ronde de Bordeaux. RdB figs are black just like in his pic. That guy is probably a silent forum member trying to make a buck. My RdB is 5 yrs old in ground and the figs match Herman's. Buyer beware!

Hey Guys you know what is your problem?? I'll let you on a little secret, you all are full of BS, nothing more then a bunch of presumptuous self appointed know it all, that guy on eBay gave you the right answer, get a life!! Your life evolves around figs or a fig trees, what a disappointing, unfulfilled life you must have. I feel so sorry for you, and please do not respond to my statement, it will just make me not like you even more, do yourself a favor, go to one of your precious fig tree, pick one of your precious fig, make sure is a green one (not ripened just in case i confused you), smear the milk from the stem all over your mouth, your lips will then swell up and you will not be able to speak, that will help you to shut the hell up. giampalulo

Giampalulo, You stated as the fig being an RDB and for all you know it is genuine RDB. Perhaps the person that sold it to you got you? There are many of us that have this fig. I have two of them. Your RDB is nowhere near to being one ( RDB ). We all can't be wrong. Take it for what's it's worth. But just know this fact, Your RDB is false. And I'm sorry to say you have been taken.

Hello Giampalulo, the person who recently told you that your tree looks like a RdB but different because of sunlight was only doing that to cause problems here. Are the mother planted deep in the woods? You say they are exposed next to your driveway and I see blue sky behind the pictures of fully ripe figs hanging on the tree. You may not know that this variety routinely goes for $100+ and is in very limited supply, but now you do. It is easy to imagine that someone would misrepresent an unknown variety as a valuable one to make an easy profit (over $1500 in your case with 15 trees). I hope that is not your intention and you will provide more photos of your tree so that it can be identified or named a unique variety and you can sell it in good conscience. Hopefully this is a big misunderstanding. You will find everyone here friendly as soon as you calm down.

just thinking, if someone knew their figs, it would not take three weeks to identify a variety, just like if you hand an experienced cabinet maker a piece of wood it does not take 3 weeks for him to know what it is, colour, grain, wieght, he knows what it is. There are some on this forum who know their figs, who have spent years growing and studying them, who have more than many degrees worth of knowledge.

As stated in another thread, there is a certain decorum on this forum and even in dispute, the cream rises to the top. There was also a statement about profanity being the crutch of conversation cripples, I REST MY CASE! If you or any other "presumptuous, self appointed A##&*^$ tells me my cuttings are wrong, I will pull the ad until I can determine the truth, then attack the self appointed, in self defense of course, I would show the source of the expertise. Last I checked Cornell was a great Hotel/restaurant management school, for some reason, the school doesn't come up very often as a center of study, or expertise in agriculture, botany, or any of those other "farmy" things, now we know why, LOL

Cornell is a very fine university - one of the best. It would be my guess that 'counsulting with someone at Cornell' is a bit of an exaggeration, to put it kindly. Judging by the presentation of giampalulo here, his obvious distain of experts, does he really seem to be the kind of person who would seek help from the halls of higher learning? And if so, how was that done? In person with plant in hand, via email with photographs... The story does not make sense.
