Early Fig Rust

Last year my tree produced 130lbs of figs. This year.. there is really nothing on the tree at all. We have had heavy rain all of July, and I'm guessing this explains why the rust is already here. Now for the first time I'm going to trim off the top of the tree. When is the best time to trim? Has anyone else in the southern part of Georgia, or Florida experienced a bad season?

I don't know, but it seems most trim as tree goes into dormancy or just coming out of it.

I've got Rust, but not nearly as badly as last season. I spread my pots out to get more air circulation (had them packed in last year). I pick off the bad leaves as they appear. And I spray with Neem about every two weeks. I also spray periodically through the winter.
