Early leapers this year

Just wanted to share pics of some early leapers, already putting on 3" - 6"+ of growth in the last two weeks or so since breaking bud.  Over the last two weeks, I've been shuttling them in and out when the overnight temps are below 40ยบ or we get more than 1 day of rain.

Here are the best growers out of the lot.

Conadria - 5"

Italian Honey - 4" and 2", respectively (This is Saxonfig's IH - vigorous grower - he still has cuttings available!)

Marseilles Black VS - 2"  (from a two-node cutting!)

Negronne - 3.5"

Ronde de Bordeaux - 3" + several shoots

Sal (Gene's) - 3"

Schuyler (unknown) - 4"

nice bro sal, marseilles vs. and negronne are the shi-!!!!! (I mean that in a good way)
When did you start your cuttings???  I have italian honey too and noticed that it is a very vigorous grower and was quick to root for me this year!

Nice job Jason beautiful collection and nice job labeling.

Everything seems to be lookin pretty good Jason. Glad to see those IH are taking off for you. They do seem to be fairly easy to root & tend to take off with some vigor. May be why so many folks have that one :) .

I have 11 ctgs of this Italian Honey that have been in the fridge for nearly 15 months. Kept them from last Dec. as an experiment to see just how long ctgs can be stored & still be viable. Will start a separate thread soon to begin sharing my experience on that.

@Will, these are all cuttings from last year that were stunted because I had to leave them in full shade for the year.  Too much international travel kept me away from home.

@Rob, I just use those labelmakers you can get for $15-$20.  The tapes and ink are totally UV-resistant, I've had some in full sun for a year with no fading.  I highly recommend.

@Bill, I gave a few IH away to family and friends, last spring year two of them went down to Bradenton, FL and they're literally 6' and 8' tall, respectively.  I still have a few left... definitely a solid grower.

Nice pics Jason.  Your cuttings look good.

Looks good Jason!

Nice pictures,Jason. If you still looking for Col de Dame,e-mail me! Marius

Jason those are doing great, way ahead of mine in growth. I guess the difference is all mine are in ground and wake up slower. Congrats!

Have some nice growth in my New Hampshire lakes region micro climate. Just moving them in and out of the barn can do wonders.

OK , it's not really this year , just wanted to share in the waterfall of enthusiasm sweeping from the South, heading North I hope.

Hello drivewayfarmer, Are those doubled up white buckets made into self irrigating pots? If so great idea, if not you gave me a good idea. Great looking plants!

Hey ce4656 ,
Yes those are SIP's , been using them for several years for veggies , so I thought figs should do well.
Several sites show how to make them ,globalbuckets is one that gives a good example of the double buckets version and others.
A member of this forum , Duane , wrote in recently with a good new approach for other SIP's.

Ok ill have to check them out. I saw the ones Bill from the f4fun growing tips link showed how to build. They looked great, but a little too pricey for materials. Yours look perfect for my budget. Thanks Chris

I have CdD, I'm actively looking for CdD Noir, and I am fairly interested in CdD Gris.

I picked up a regular CdD from one of my regulard fig friends/traders.  ;)

Surprised I somehow missed it while shooting the "flock".

Oh - and Kerry, those pics are great!  Holy crap, serious growth.  That last picture of RdB and all of the airlayers... looks familiar ;)  Thanks for sharing!

IH is definitely the best grower, but some bug is loving it right now.  Not sure what's chomping on it ....

I noticed the same thing with my italian honey cuttings from hermansur! They were very quick to root and are growing very fast!!!!

Thanks Jason ,
I got the Ronde de Bordeaux from Bass.
I don't know what it is about RdB , but I just love the way it looks.
Used to work in a tree nursery in northern California ,this Rdb reminded me of the way stool beds of dwarfing apple rootstocks we grew there looked, so I decided to airlayer as much as I could from it.

It's worth noting that in the last 2 weeks, I have had some major leaping.  A couple of my trees have put on ofer a foot of new growth, some stalks as thick as my thumb.  Maybe pics to follow in the coming days.

Maybe Hotlanta isn't that bad after all! Especially for figs.

what kind of fig is in the last picture in number 10. i have one that looks just like it but i dont know what it is.

In post # 10 the last picture is Ronde de Bordeaux

I'm fortunate a kind fig friend was able to help me replace the one I purchased which never woke up.  Clearly this did (post #1 pic #5)

It is a gorgeous fig.  It's a little slow to start, but it's getting there.  I reckon this one will be late to leap.
