Ebay Advice

A nice thick branch came off my Nero tree and I was thinking of cutting it up in 5 sections and putting it up on ebay.
The problem with the Nero variety is that there are  many variants with the Nero name (Plain Nero, Bellclaire, 600, Briogiotto, etc etc). I don't want to be accused of selling something that it isn't. Any suggestions?

Maybe if you put pix here of leaf, tree  and fruit with help you might be able to narrow if down?

Just be honest about it, state what you've just said . There would be no problem with that I'm sure.

Frank,

You have the answer to your own question my friend.
Use the 2nd sentence of your post and you should be fine.

Good luck with your sales!  Pattee and Rafed said it all!

FMD, you need to put your stamp on those photos or anybody can steal them.  Just put a line of words across making YOU as the owner!

I have photoshop.  I'll do it for you.  It's a snap, and a lot better than having your photos stolen for someone elses listing!!

More good advice, Suzi. Thanks I'll look into water-marking the photos. If the eBay experience is positive, I'll have many more pictures to watermark.

Good luck I hope they do well for you.

To improve your closeup pics of the figs, stand back a few feet, then use your zoom on your camera.  You will get a nice sharp image.

With the high sums figs have been bringing recently, more people will probably sell their cuttings or small plants - and in the end, bring down prices.

Good to see more sellers we know venturing into the ebay fray. Best of luck.

I'll have to try that, Frank. I use my iPhone 4, which generally takes adequate pics. The blurriness is usually operator dependent, ie me.
BTW, welcome to the forum, just what it needed... one more Frank.  :))
Frank

Frankly, I agree!  :-))

Yeah Gina, I've sold other things on ebay but never figs.
The Nero cuttings will be a test case. This past spring, a freak late freeze killed all my trees to the ground. What a waste of organic matter, I thought. So this fall, I air-layered dozens of branches plus, I will have plenty of cuttings to distribute. So if another freeze occurs, I'll be covered.

I will make most of them available to members at a discount, once I get a better idea of what they are worth on ebay. I'm not looking to make a killing, but on the other hand, a person's time is worth something.

With a camera phone, you won't get that nice crisp shot zooming in, as the digital zoom isn't as good as optical zoom.  You would need a small pocket camera to achieve good results zooming in.  With my particular camera phone, it's best not to zoom in, but get as close as you can, hit the focus button, then be as still as a statue when you snap the shot.
And yes, I've noticed a lot of Franks here!  If these Franks are Italian, then it makes perfect sense, as it's damn near a law for an Italian to own at least 1 fig tree!!  :)
I too plan on selling cuttings/small trees on craigslist and Ebay next year.  I may take a shot with air layering my d'anjou pear tree as well.  Good luck!

How did the fig taste?

Hi Ed, to be honest, the birds and the weather has only allowed me to taste a few and therefore I can't really pass judgment on this first year's output. What I did taste has promise, however.

If Jon objects to mentioning figs4fun, I can delete the references.

Frank, would say from my end it looks to cover the bases.

Good advertisement for the group with the added bonus. What are you hopes for on ending price?

I think this is one of the funnest listings I have ever seen on Ebay!  I hope you get $$$ for your trouble, and I love the bonus thing!  Wow!!

Suzi

Looks good - and good luck! I see you already have a bid for $1. :)

Watching figs on Ebay is so entertaining.

Cool listing ! I think that's great with a bonus. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I just added pictures of the cuttings. Yes, I will have an extra set to auction off, if the first is successful.

Hoping to get enough in bids to at least cover postage, Anything more is gravy. Maybe we can grow figs4fun membership a little more, also.

These things slowly gain momentum, and you will get lots of watchers too.  The last few hours is when the excitement begins!  I love all your photos, and I really hope you make a lot of $$!

I put a little bid on it, just to get things started, and I'd be lucky to get it for $1.25, but I'm certain that others will jump in.  It will be soo much fun watching it!  The more bids are on something, the more bidders are attracted to it!

Good luck!

Suzi

;-))  Looks like you got your shipping costs!

Good luck!

Suzi
