Ebay Seller

Travis,I received a plant Wed and it looks really good. We shared emails on four occasions and I also received some additional cuttings.
This was my fourth time buying from him. From the looks of all these comments, there was only one negative and I will continue
to do business with Vinnie and his two sons.

Time can be the factor here.

I think the reasonable amount of time to pay after an auction has ended would be a day or two or maybe three?
After that, I don't think there is any reason why you should delay in making a payment.

Chris,
Can you give an approx. of when after the end of auction he filed a non pay?

*******************************************************************************

I won a liquor action once and when the package arrived I got an email alert.
About an hour or two later I got an email from the seller asking since I got the product why am I delaying in leaving a feedback?

I responded from my phone saying;

Dude,
I just got the package and I won't be home till later to inspect it. Then and only then would I leave a feedback.
I said to him you need to be a little patient. Not everyone is sitting next to their computer 24/7 like yourself.

*******************************************************************************

So this could be a tale of one impatient seller or a buyer that actually took too long in paying.

When I had to file a non paying bidder for one of my auctions you needed to wait 4 days before ebay will let you file it. Even if the buyer tells you outright they're not going to pay for it.

Rafed,

You posted the following "Chris, Can you give an approx. of when after the end of auction he filed a non pay?"

Auction ended on 7/11/13
  • @ 5:38 PM
Johns left on Friday for "the farm" 7/12/13
  •      Said we would discuss after he returned.
Returned Sunday 7/14/13
  • Started to discuss options on other starter trees.
Filled claim 7/15/13
  • Discussion still in progress and awaiting options.
  • No indication of not going to pay as was asking about working through the eBay system.

Chris,

If this was all done through ebay then I would fight it.

Chris,
Sellers can also set up their accounts to automatically file a non paying bidder in the system after the alloted period of time, it sounds like this is what may have happened. Communication is the key. Ask him what happened and if he can fix it.

Rafed,

Not worth the fight over a single fig tree.
Just wanting to inform everyone else over how petty this guy can be.

Tami,

eBay confirmed it was not an automatic filling.
Johns is one of those sellers who says he is "never wrong."

New to Ebay, I hope to catch up on the Good the Bad and the Ugly........I am looking to buy some cuttings or trade in the near future.....I have sold a few cuttings in this bad heatwave and thanks to prayer they survived the journey to the east coast........I believe they did well because I cut the cuttings fresh and went immediately to the post office and sent it Priority 2-3 days on a Monday...........I also believe that figs have a strong will to survive.....maybe it started with dealing with Adam and Eve in the Garden...LOL...............Been reading a lot of posts this week.....Love the information that you fig lovers have....keep it coming...

If there is any doubt to what Armando has said here is the proof. These two cuttings are a week and two days old in their rooting cups and they are already breaking leaves. They left his house in CA and traveled cross country to Rhode Island in a heat wave of 100 degree temps.

I just received a tree from Vinnie.  It suffered somewhat from a 7-day UPS trip during summer but should recover since it's a strong tree.  It was well-packed.  Vinnie was very good at follow-up and concerned about the long trip and I sent him a photo.  He said that if it didn't survive that he would work things out with me which was nice.  I offered some suggestions such as Priority Mail for long-distance shipments and he was very open to my ideas and thanked me for them.  He sent me some cuttings as a gift which was a nice gesture.

eBay wants to discourage private transactions between buyers and sellers where they get cut out of making a commission so it's difficult to contact a seller and I don't particularly like eBay's dashboard system.  It was easier before when the other eBay member's email address would be shown on replies.  It gets somewhat confusing trying to sort through all the messages on the dashboard system (I know from a seller myself).  After I received my plant I emailed Vinnie by obtaining it from my PayPal payment history and that worked easier for sending photos, etc.

After case is open you still have 4 days to pay for your purchase so total of 8 days is aplenty of time for buyers to pay after auction ends.

Chris I tough you are talking about $250.00 budget(looks like for multiple trees) not only one tree
.
I wish you share with us some of emails you share with this seller and let as be the judge who was wrong.

Best Regards.

I just received a tree from this seller today. The package was pretty smashed up. After opening it up there was almost no dirt that fell out into the box. I also got some cuttings that I don't really want. I don't exactly think I have time to root cuttings.

Travis,

If the cuttings are anything special and if they are hard wood then you can clean them off with bleach and water and store.

Get one part bleach and about 8 to 10 parts water. Soak the cuttings in the solution for a couple minutes then scrub them with a soft old/used tooth brush while still in the solution and rinse off under running water.
Place them in a Ziploc bag with moist moss and stick in the fridge. Fig cuttings can go up to six months in the fridge and some can go longer.
I would stay away from moist paper towel if you plan on storing for a long period of time. The paper towel can still dry off and cause molding.

Moist moss is the best way in my opinion.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Rafed thank you for the info. I might try to root them I just don't know if ill ever have the patience.

Travis, where are you located?  If you aren't in an area with extreme temperatures, I think you can probably pot them up and keep them in the shade and they should grow fine.  Some of the cuttings I received yesterday already had roots on them so I wouldn't use bleach on any like that.

I'm in pittsburgh. I might give that a shot.

Just don't let rains flood the pots and they should be fine.  You want the mix to be damp, not wet.

I won an auction from johnsvmf1 for a Col de Dame Blanc, it arrived today looking like it went through a 4 MINUTE trip instead of a 4 DAY trip. Packing was very well done, soil was damp with newspaper covering it. Everything Vinnie said was exactly the way it happened, tree looks to be in great shape , I'd definitely order from him again. Thanks again Vinnie.

I also won two auctions from Vinnie and his sons ( johnsvmf1 ) . A Zingarella and a Pingo de Mel  + three free cuttings of fantastic varieties. They were shipped on the 22nd and arrived today and I did not pay extra for priority.

They are both in perfect condition. Not one leaf was droopy , well watered , healthy and well secured in the box.
I'd buy from them any time .

Thanks Vinnie and sons !

I just received a Sal Corleone and a paradiso from these guys along with 3 very fat bonus cuttings. Tress are very strong and arrived in perfect condition. Thanks guys

I just purchased a tree from Vinnie and bonus cuttings. He is a pleasure to work with. I would order more trees from him any time.

There's probably enough good praise for this seller, but I'll pile on anyway because I was so happy with the 'Long Island' fig I bought from them.  Packed perfectly and the three fat bonus cuttings were icing on the cake...I already have some nice roots coming out of them.  I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

Just got a couple from Vinnie and was VERY happy with the transaction!!
I would order more trees from him any time!!

I'll add to the redundancy. Vinnie was very accommodating. I will buy from these guys again. Plus, I respect what they are doing to help pay for schooling.

I have won a fig from him on Ebay recently. The dad is no longer active mil. I think. He wrote to me personally when I asked questions. Very very well packed healthy plants. Dads name is Vinny. Very very nice, super conscientious ebayer. Highly recommended!

Cheers, laura
