ebay seller wellspring100

Looking to add to my small fig collection which are still just beyond rooted cuttings - found this ebay seller that has 4 varieties at the moment that I dont have - Magnolia, Ischia, Texas Everbearing, and Black Mission.  I havent found much of anything in terms of the sellers reputation - ie, if the varieties are what they're claimed to be.  Was hoping someone else might know more about them?  Prices and shipping seem more than fair to me, I splurged and got one of each.

I have not bought any figs from that seller, but I have bought other plants from him and they were pretty decent plants. For the price I thought it was a great deal. I am actually planning on picking up a black mission from him this week.

Yes, they've got a great shipping policy, and it seems like they pack their items really well from what I've read.  Since I'm still learning more about rooting, I figure rooted cuttings are safer for me.

It will be like Christmas in July for you. The gifts that keeps giving and giving!

Well, I did get them in July, but I wouldnt quite call it Christmas.  Shipping was pretty quick, with all 4 sent in a 2-3 day priority box.

I was a little surprised, as they are smaller (and thinner) than the cuttings I got from UCDavis, and smaller than the 2 rooted cuttings I got from ebay.  One appears to have a little bit of rust spots, but other than that, they seem pretty healthy.  I can see some roots in the bottom of the 2-3" cups.  I'm going to let them acclimate for a day or two, then I'll put them in something a little bit bigger.

The one marked Brown Turkey, they're saying is the same as these: Everbearing, Harrison, Ramsey, Lee's Perpetual, Eastern Brown Turkey, and Brunswick and Texas Everbearing.

You say small, but at least they look healthy, little brown spots is not uncommon on those being shipped such as yours from the moisture once accimilated to the sun they will be fine and should thrive.
The MAIN thing now is that they are true to name .
Be sure not to put them in the sun but shade and little by little some sun as time passes.
Best Luck

when you say that do you mean that they could be mix up or not even the right ones.
I was about to try and order some until i saw that.

Americanfigboy,
yes to both its possible.
There are a some that belong to fig forums that occasionally sell on ebay and they are excellent in everyway.
Its a terrible waste of time to buy a fig plant only to find out later after careing for it its not what you thought you bought. If there is a particular fig plant you seek and are willing to pay cost of plant and shipping just ask on forum , example

Hi im seeking a Marseilles Vs and would be happy to send payment first please let me know,  Thanks.

Offering to send payment first shows your not fooling around as a few here have been ripped off by 1 particular person after sending material never to recieve anything back in trade.

The best time is early spring or going into winter , but some might be able to help at other times, just ask you might be surprised .

Also there are a few websites that are good as well, the moderator here "JON" sells scion for propagating on his site Encanto Farms in February just to name 1.

So your best 'bet' would be from reputable growers, and UCDavis?

I'll definitely keep updates on what I have, where I obtained, and what the fruits look like, to the best of my ability.  Eventually I'd like to get into trading, but I'm sure even there, issues have happened, sometimes where mistakes just happen, or get compounded as time progresses.

No definitive way, I guess other than DNA testing, which is not really feasible.

Jackster ,

i have learned a lot reading this forum and the GW forum , been a member there longer time than this one as i was to lazy to register and thru time have traded and or bought,at time simply given a plant by a forum member.
Through time one gets an good idea who they can trust by reading and emailing back and forth. I would say 99.9% of the older members are terrific to deal with , i not familar with the newer members .
Yes there are some good website like i mention above post. I have had a wonderful time dealing with the folks here but im basically done with having plenty of plants that i had looked for.
Perhaps one day in future i will sell some scion on ebay to recoop some back for cost of taking care of them and screen name will be easily recognized as i have been Dieseler since Aol basically exsisted.
Best Health
