Ebay Unknown Rooted Purchase

Just purchased this one.  HUGE fan of the unknown's here!  It's rooted, so taking a chance.  Better than losing in the lottery!

Description:  orgNIC ROOTED FiG TREE CUTTINGS.. why buy a cutting without roots just to find out months later it won't grow any. mine already have roots and are happy and well established, not used to being in the light they are a little translucent but once acquainted to a nice window they will grow rapidly. and eventually go outside in a pot, they are baby cuttings and you get to have the wonder and joy of watching them grow up. when the first fruits form and you eat them you will be delighted. children love watching these grow also. i can also upon request send a non-rooted cutting for grafting. If shipping internationally, if it does not show up I am still out the item and cannot refund your money but will send another cutting for replacement

Here are some questions and answers:

Q: What variety fig tree are these?Jul-17-12
A: Not sure exactly, the tree is not marked and i live in a rental so all I know is the fruit turn out huge and taste wonderful! The tree was planted with the neighborhood when it was built a long time ago. This and the fact that the fruit turns a blueish blackish purple
Q: Do you know what type of fig this is? It kind of looks like a Dessert King. Mine died, so I am interested if it is a Dessert King. ThanksJul-04-12
A: Im not sure what kind they are. This tree is growing in sand-like soil. It is drought and heat tollerant. The figs are wonderful. If you want me to I could send you my best cutting for the best results possible for you. Figs are big when ripe and purplish bluish blackish color. Desease free tree

Someone mentioned this eBay seller recently.  I can't seem to find the thread, though.  I just remember the typo on OrgNIC and the question.

She contacted me immediately asking if I wanted a rooted cutting or a scion for grafting.  She is a good communicator, so maybe she can't spell.  My ex was a school principal and couldn't spell at all!

Huge and Blue Black sounds like maybe Mission to me.  Time will tell.
Suzi

Desert,

Seller is 10 min away from me, if the sellers location is true... I can actually go see the tree in person if the seller didnt mind.

nullzero, you could be a spy!  Oh my!!  :-)  That would be so cool to hear your report!

Suzi

I can buy one, and see if he/she she does local pickup and skips ebay.

Let us know if you bought it and picked it up!  Take photos if you can!  I somehow trust this seller, and am looking forward to seeing what i bought!

Suzi

you've got me curious too!
I love adventure!
This is what 007 stuff is made of! :)
Hmmm, get me one too! LOL

Too many known good varieties out there, or an unknown from a known fig person would be more promising. Good luck though I hope you beat the odds and get something interesting

Several sellers on Ebay, and I don't know one!  Known sellers?  Didn't see Herman.   I don't know the others.  Ebay sellers don't often have the same moniker they use here.

I like the communication of this seller, and it's a dark skinned variety which gives me a little clue, plus the fruit is large..... another clue.  Guessing it's Mission.

Suzi

Desertdance some have it in there signature im thinking.
Mine is.

Maybe we should have a thread titled "I Sell On Ebay, You can trust me!"

Several rooted cuttings up for sale now with a lot of bids.  Do we know this person?  Name is mnedelcu

Martin, my husband was born in Chicago, and his dad was an Olympic swimmer in 1936 in Berlin.  His dad got a bug in his head to move to a better climate.  He got tired of shoveling snow...

Suzi

I can understand that its bad enough to move the snow with shovel or snowblower and stinks to have to drive in it as well it gets old real fast over the years.

What gets me is there is no pictures.
Love when they put "Organic" as a selling point.

At least the girl didn't steal the pictures from anybody...

Hi Suzi, I noticed that no one responded negatively about mnedelcu YET, and they do have a 100% rating so I'm going to take a chance and see how an auction goes with them. Good luck in your bidding.

mnedelcu is a trusted member of this forum. He is one of the very few I would buy a fig on ebay from. And have, and was very pleased.

Earlier this spring, I got a 'deal' on fig cuttings an unknown seller was selling as mission. The photo was from the net. Several of them are now in pots but I won't really know what I purchased till next year. Probably a BT. But it was inexpensive - with S/H it cost $8 plus the time and money of rooting and potting them up. If it's money down a rat hole, it could have been worse. These days I'd never do that. But then that's just me. :)

Suzi, there are several old threads about ebay sellers identifiying those who are also well known members of this forum. I know a couple ebay sellers also seem to be joining this forum recently for the sole purpose of selling figs, they usually don't post though. Bass has a listing right now. Most of them identify themselves as Martin indicated. Look for that in the description of the ebay listing.

Let me clarify, most of the good ones identify themselves by there names here on this forum. Gorgi is figsnstuff, Bass is Trees of Joy, Ed is ep3 or something close to that. Just do a search for ebay and read those threads that'll give you some guidance as to who is trustworthy

I have been a member for a long time and don't know what the actual member name of mnedelcu is.  I sell on Ebay, under a different name, but I have NEVER sold a fig or a cutting.  Mostly trying to sell stuff from the Estate.  Thank God, it's almost over......
