Edible Landscaping Catalog

Hi gang.
Yesterday i recieved the small catalog from edible landscaping which contains other fruits and veggies in it. Just to bad im not in a warmer climate oh some of those plants i can only dream about as im not gettng a greenhouse (oh well)
On page 13 i believe are the fig descriptions for example Hardy Chicago  but anyways what caught my eye was the Petite Negri which was described as this
Petite Negri a dwarf form of black mission so any thoughts on this and how this fig came about into the field as im always curious to learn some new things.
Here is the list of figs in catalog and no im not advocating buying there plants or something to that affect nor work for them im just an average Joe conversing here, i do have several of there plants i had bought seasons ago.
This is the fig plants they list in there catalog

Hardy Chicago Fig
Celeste Fig
St.Anthony Marseilles Fig
LSU Purple Fig
Conadria Fig
Violet de Bordeaux Fig
English Brown Turkey Fig
Oregon Prolific Fig
Osborne Fig
Petite Negri Fig
TXBA1 Fig
Latturulla Yellow Fig
not a big list of figs but an interesting catalog of other plants, some years back i did purchase a few of there plants and have no interest in any they have now, my most recent purchase last winter was a VdB that i had wanted.
Cant really fit anymore figs in storage well maybe 1 or 2   ; )  but not from them perhaps from Jon who probably has the nicest variety of figs.

So any comments on Petite Negri ?

By the way the pictures sure look nice this time of year here!

I also got it recently and was really happy with the picture of the TX BA1, with the drop of honey at the eye. Mike from edible landscaping says it's one of his sweetest figs.
One thing about Edible landscaping lately, is their quality. I purchased two figs last spring and one came to me as just a stick with no leaves. Another time i odered a pawpaw of one variety they sent another.
They still have a good customer service though.
The picture at the front of the catalog is of their seedless Che which its suppose to be self fertile but it keeps dropping the fruit without the male.

I have had 2 different petite negris over the years.  I think its related to violette de bourdeau and negronne.  Never saw any similarity (in leaves or fruit) to black mission.  I also agree with Bass. Years ago EL's stuff was excellent in my opinion.  The last year or so I have not been happy with their stuff.

LOL:
Spoken like a true-blue fig nut!!!!  "Cant really fit anymore figs in storage well maybe 1 or 2   ; )"

I had to laugh at that.  My garage is stuffed, I have room for maybe one more outside and I'm out looking for Longue D'aout!!!!  When I get that one I will probably find room for "Maybe 1 or 2".    A greenhouse?  Maybe, maybe not.

Martin, I agree with you.  I am sticking to figs acquired from the fig nuts here on the forum from now on.

Martin,

I have to agree with oxankle. The maybe 1 or 2 was kind of funny.
I'm like you. Been thinking about limiting myself to about 20 or 25 of the best but I still want this one and that one and one of the other.

I could really use one more but this is the one I want,

Panache, Fiorone De Ruvo, Bunch of Mid-Eastern figs, Nordland Bergfeige to name a few.

Guys my last purchase was a 5 gallon VdB it has FMV but seemed last season as it grew it dealt with it very well and the leaves looked much better im lucky in that reagrd. Matter of fact all my plants that look pretty good from the FMV standpoint except 1 the darm ichia black but having fun with that one for now it even gave a few figs last season but they came a little late.I have heard and read about Petite Negri being similar to VdB and seen pictures of it and it does look real close to my Vdb fruit wise i was just curious.
I know i even cracked a smile when i typed that "maybe 1 or 2 more" i always had my eye on the Panache fig plant everytime i see a photo i say those figs are so unusual looking at least to me perhaps one day
Course then if i aquired it i would only have room maybe for 1 or 2 more.   ; )

I bought a Meyer Lemon, a Bay Laurel, and a Hardy Chicago from Edible Landscaping in late July. The prices were reasonable and the plants showed up healthy.

Have you guys seen EL's YouTube videos? They're kind of funny:

I have 2 Petite Negri I bought on ebay last spring(cant recall ebay member)
They were about 18-20 " tall I and have them in pots.Got about 6 or 8 fruits this fall and hope to have more next year.I dont know much more about them other than descriptions on various forums but I will say they have very good fruit and I plan on putting them in the ground this sping.I think Parks Seed has them for sale but they were sold out when I tried to get them
prior to my ebay order, you might want to check with them.I may have a few
cuttings in fall if all goes well

I did learn something from that video and thats how to pronounce SCION i noticed right away when he said it and it sounded like this in case you missed it.
SIGH ON
i always said it like this "SCON" , maybe my Chicago accent or something or my lack of edyacation  ; )

Anhoot like i said never had a problem with there plants but i doubt i will be ordering anymore fig plants course i might have room for 1 or 2 more if i look hard enough in garage for storage space  ; )
