I just purchased a Hardy Chicago from Edible Landscaping.Just wondering has anyone purchased it from the and how do you like it?Do you have any photos you can share with me?I had purchased a HC from Hartmann plant company here in Michigan it's a nice tasting fig but it tends to be alot lighter than other hardy chicagos.It's more of a bronze very light purple to it nice flavor.Mike told me his HC is dark with excellent flavor.Thank You

Rob I bought one last year along with a violette de bordeaux!!  I have to say edible landscaping's packaging of the fig trees is pretty impressive they put them in a big cardboard box then put a large piece of bamboo pole in order to prevent the box from being crushed.  The hardy chicago is a must have and is extremely hardy but the violette de bordeux is hands down the best tasting fig I have ever eaten and if you don't own one you have to put it on the list as a MUST have!!!  I would take pictures of the H.C. but there isn't much to see because it is dormant however I can tell you that it grows like a weed and is extremely cold hardy and does great stored for the winter in my cold garage!!!!  Get one of each you will not be disappointed!!!!!  Hope this answers your question!!!  Good luck this season with your fig trees!!

I bought 2 HC's over the the years from edible landscaping, and although I love the nursery disposed of them after 5 years.  Too slow to get fruit and not the best quality in my opinion.  I did pick up one from a forum member that he got from paradise nursery and am extremely impressed with it. Fantastic rooter, 2 of my cuttings gave me fruit the 1st year and the fruit was excellent, and thats for a first year plant!  On the other hand, the vdb I got from edible landscaping is one of my top 3 cultivars, especially last year.

To my recollection they did, but I did not have them at the same time to compare to each other. 

I have both the HC and Negronne (sold as VDB) from EL.  They both have done well for me in NC.  Last year I posted a picture of the second year bush of HC at this link:  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=4841803
The first year I planted those two figs I got more than 75 figs.  Both taste great to me but the Negronne has a little more flavor.  HC is more productive and earlier so far.

I was blessed to be able to keep a "spare" Hardy Chicago for a friend and it's burst into buds and little leaves.  It's just young right now, but is rarin' to grow.  It will be interesting to observe it this coming season.  I don't know where it's from originally.

I have a Negronne, that came from JR.  It's getting all kinds of bud swells along with the other young trees.  I don't know its origin, either.
