El Paso Texas Figs

Anyone in El Paso want to share a favorite tree?  Im in town for two weeks on FT Bliss and would love to see your trees here.  Dont have much time but would gladly find an evening  between now and the 15th to do so.

best regards,

johnny

I just got into figs and dont have much to show just yet. There are specimen plants around town, apparently there is one on the fort bliss golf course. It is much more of a pomegranate town. Those are all over the place. We are in a 8b winter this year.

thanks Dig.

do you know what hole it's on?  i think the course here is 9, but still a lot to walk- which i will do, but prefer not to.  i don't get much time off, so any pinpoint locations would be a big help. i fly in, do my job 12 hours a day for 12 days, then go back to kansas, so i have to manage time closely and i've already planned for one night at the German Pub, one night at Chico's Taco's and one night at Carnitas Queretaro. ha ha.  my time away from home always turns into restaurant expeditions!

Sorry I do not know which hole (I have never seen it, I only read about it somewhere but could not find the source). I only know of two old trees, one near UTEP in a back yard that is very old and large 10', but the figs were not sweet (maybe timing), the other is one block from my house. The later is about 4-5' tall, but prune with trunks 2-4" thick with new growth about 1' (I need to talk to them).

If you want some fresh pomegranate cuttings from my neighbors very old plants I could arrange that. They are very hardy.

That would be be great!  I've never tried pomegranates,  but I've been interested since i saw them growing in Italy.

I haven't gotten to the golf course yet, but i will try to get there during lunch today or tomorrow.  i can probably ask the groundskeeper where it's at.....if the course is open.

Also my house is quite close to the base, just off hwy 54 and close to I 10. I am unsure if my pomegranates can survive a Kansas winter but they are very hardy here for the last 80 years or so. They can be potted up quite well I am told. Just send me a PM and I will get you my address. I am usually at home or nearby.

Dig,

sent you a pm.
