Elana Fig

Last year I was able to root several cuttings of Elana that were given to me by a fellow enthusiast. I know very little about this fig although Paully has mentioned it is one of his favorites. If anyone has information and/or photos of it, I welcome your reply. Thanks much.

I have pic's in the computer that crashed. It came from Italy at the request of an Ital. immigrant. He told his relatives to send the best big fig and that was how it got to Canada. The original owner is over 75yrs old, speaks little english & he is much guarded on this tree. He build a fig house for this tree in Victoria, Vancouver island.  This gentleman planted a tree at his son's house. My tree came from his son's house.  His son is much guarded on this tree too and it is hard to obtain cuttings. It is a large dark fig and  he had no idea what variant the fig is. Elana is the name of my friend's daughter. It is a dark fig, productive tree and certainly good tasting. The tree at my friend's house is an outdoor tree.

Thanks Paully. I tried to email you through the forum and I'm happy that you responded to this one. Does it produce two crops? What color is the inside? Is it solid or hollow inside? I read someplace that another member thought it compared with Paradiso Nero.

Interior is on the reddish side and has some skin breaks when fully ripe. Somewhat squatty like Brooklyn Wht when nicely ripe. Two crops. But 1st crop almost all kill by cold spring here.
