Martin's Unknown fig tree will be destroyed .
There were a couple people that wanted scion this winter if your 1 of them ONLY email me at   ( Dieseler@aol.com)

Best Health

Martin, you got mail. Thanks.

Martin,

Why would you get rid of this tree?

The tree only produces a handful of figs (very few ) that are not bad but then as weather cools and more ripen there not up to my standards.
It starts to ripen late and just leaves to many unripen figs before season ends. Plant is in 7th or 8 season and was my first plant along with a brown turkey i had given to neighbor years ago, there were seasons in my climate that were nice and the figs were good but it still left many unripen.
Scion was sent to many over the last year to hot and cold climates and was explained at the time to the folks in cold climates that i dont think it would perform well, i wanted them to know this because people get anxious because its a nice size fig and pretty dark color as the plant matures and probably the reason i kept it around.
It justs need a long warm climate to see what it can really do.
Perhaps as some of these plants mature members will report on it good or bad.
I ask please just email me if you were promised the scion from me.

martin, i might suggest that you beat its roots with a ruler, and try again next year, and report the results back to us. i bet you get superior figs.

Mike, Mike,
i cannot do that to this particular tree it will get a Proper burning in can.
Now one recently destroyed this season that was a genuine fake Madeira got a good side to side Whack in the can and then burned slowly with much pleasure.

Tree is not being destroyed after all .
One of the persons that i had promised scion to actually lives here in illinois and will pick up the tree.
The persons promised scion still will get them.

Martin, have you got a genuine Madeira tree  for now.

Paully i have a ucdavis one if thats what you mean unless you know someone that actually brought one from the island themselves which would be interesting.

UC Davis too.

Paully ,
i have my toes crossed that one fig on my madeira will ripen this season but season is leaving our area pretty fast , if it ripens i post picture of course .
Had to wear a darn sweat shirt and and another with a hood at the HS stadium today and sat way up high in the bleachers , course it was windy but the band show was great. But still this is last weekend of summer that never came this year.

Thanks Martin. A pic would be nice especially coming from your zone. In fact Ottawan told me they are expecting temp to  be 42*F by sunday night. Amazingly cold. Our forecast for next week is 72*F to 76*F.

Well Martin, I understand your reasons for getting rid of the tree. I am grateful that I have been able to get 2 very healthy trees from the wood you gave me last winter. One day I may come to the same conclusion as you with regards to this tree but we will see. For now, I have high hopes for it and it will forever be known as "Martin's Unknown" in my collection.

Paul;y, yes i post picture if it ripens maybe a picture if it does not too!
So Ottawan has temp going into the low 40s yup thats getting down there.
Several weeks back we had temps in mid 40s for several nights i think i posted about that as i had to bring the smaller tender plants in the shed during that span as i felt it would set them back for rest of season, madeira , sals c, pastiliere, kalamata, argentile, baby portuguese, baby italian unknown all had to be put away then brought back out .
