Encanto Farms Fig Cuttings 2014

Figbert, the instructions say that an add-on order will be treated as a separate order and will incur separate shipping charges. You can send an additional order, however.

This was my first time ordering and I didn't realize I should include alternates. I guess, to be truthful, I included all my alternatives as part of my order. I have applied for a second mortgage just in case.

Jon. After things settle down a bit, will you be posting an updated list of what's left?

Soni, and everyone else who didn't follow all the directions, like myself, has anyone received a confirmation email other than the auto thing?

Soni's order is perfect as is, as long as you included the info Jon requested in your header.  The only requirement is that it be in numerical order.  There's no guarantee any of us will get all or any of what we ordered but Soni, your format is fine.

I wonder if this is the longest thread ever on F4F?

If not we can make it so.

I put in two emails, one saying primary order and the second email saying alternative order. Now my question was this the right way to do it? Or will Jon see this as two separate orders? I am confused and hope I did not confuse Jon or the people helping him out.

Poor Jon!
Wonder what he is going through right now to be fair and balanced...

? Priorities based on the applicant's
 - length of fourm membership
 - size of foundation donation
 - size of fig collection
 - inverse size of fig collection
 - brown-nosing the forum owner
 - inverse of the distance of the member from San Diego (to prevent retaliation for not getting a prized cutting)

Seriously, I agree I would not want that job.  Does he try to please everyone with 50% of what they requested, or the first ones checked out get closer to 100% and the later ones much less?  I cannot imagine going through all the lists to try to balance that.

It isn't difficult to be fair, but it is still a lot of work.

Enter all qualifying requests, in the order they were received, into a spreadsheet with varieties in top row, requesters in left column.
Columns provide cutting request totals for each variety.

If the requested total exceeds qty available, those requesting multiples of the same variety will receive less. He basically says this in the instructions.

If the requested total exceeds qty available even with each requester receiving only one order, then he is looking at 1/2 orders.

If the requested total using 1/2 orders still exceeds qty available, then it is likely 1/2 orders will be filled until exhausted and some of the requesters may not receive any.

At this point, he'd likely contact requesters with the availability. The requesters then pay based on availability.

If the availability includes 1/2 orders and some requesters do not buy them, he'd likely contact requesters who were originally told they would not receive any of a particular cutting.

Any requests after the 3 PM deadline earlier this week will likely be filled in the order received for the quantities requested, no matter how large to help ensure as many cuttings as possible will be propagated.

Wider spread propagation is a goal of the Foundation, and 1/2 orders are more effective at achieving that than full orders or a few large orders. It is possible some requesters may make the arguement that they will spread propagation much further if they receive a larger order but that can't be quantified reliably.

I'll be happy with one cutting of each (with the price reduced appropriately);).

In hindsite, I would have made a longer request list.

Reduced or 1/2 order would work for me. So would another posting of the leftovers in a few weeks. Possibly on a first come first serve basis.
:-)

Joining the forum is not an issue.  Those who make a contribution to the Foundation have first priority.  If you didn't donate to the foundation your order will be filled after the orders of those who did make a contribution.

I still haven't received a confirmation. I wonder if I have anything to worry about. I made a donation and ordered soon after the final list was posted but still never got the confirmation email some of you  mention. Oh well, I guess i'll just wait and see.

Have you tried sending Pitangadiego (Jon) a note about it?  He commented about possibly missing a few folks earlier in this thread in post #305:

No I sure didn't green fin, I will try, thanks

I think Jon must have had a much bigger initial response to the cutting sale than last year.

Still waiting...:)

Another emergency trip to Bermuda.

I thought you were back at your vacation home on Kauai?

These days, all my emergency trips are down to the driveway to shovel more snow...

Jon if you going to Bermuda I guess you have to stop over in South Florida to have a connection flight to Bermuda:-) you can bring my Cuttings :-) with you :-)

Texas is on the way, so you might as well stop off in Dallas.  I'll even let you sleep on the couch.

I know people in Bermuda who take "emergency trips" to San Diego ;-)

My transporter provides direct service, so no need to stopover in TX of FL.

John, don't forget to leave the key under the mat so I can "watch over" your figs while you are gone.

ouch... i only got 7 out of the 17...  didn't include Maltese Beauty.   Fierce competition this year.

But I'm thankful to get these :)  Thanks Jon.
