Encanto Farms Fig Cuttings 2014

@ Greg martin ,  These are what I requested.
In my newbie-ness I didnt realize these were hard to get.   It may be years before Jon has a plentiful supply.  I  consider my age when I'm planting new fruit trees. [image] NOT funny

582  E  De la Reine

629  E  Violette Soleis.

Do you know other sources of these ?
  Thank you

Sorry Soni, no idea on those from me.

Yes, lots of unhappy people, looking for Rouge de Bordeaux, De la Reina, LSU varieties, Black Bethlehem, and several more. Need to figure out how to make trees grow faster than demand.

All orders paid as of 6:00 a.m. Paradise Std time today have been shipped.

Rouge de Bordeaux was on my list too but I'm not "unhappy" about not getting the cuttings I'm just a little melancholy or slightly disconsolate. : )

Jon,
Thanks for the prompt shipping of my 2nd order, it arrived in excellent shape today. This was the first time that ordered cuttings were not frozen solid in my mailbox.
Best Regards,

Got my second round of cuttings today too. Thanks Jon!

I posted this elsewhere but I think it belongs here, too.  It's not directed at anyone in particular but I think we need perspective.

These cuttings don't belong to the Foundation, they belong to Jon.  The fact that Jon set some aside for ebay is a smart move on his part.  So I won't get Big Al this year.  Jon has to have money to support his > 1,000 trees and it doesn't all come from the $2 - $6 we pay per cutting.  He loses a fortune by offering them to us at a fraction of what they would go for on ebay.  We're essentially taking $$ out of his pocket.  (Not that that stops me :- )  It's Jon's personal desire that his fig cuttings get widely distributed to people who will maintain them.  He's said that.  He probably figures that the members here are more likely to be successful in growing and redistributing them than the general public.  That's the only imaginable reason that he sells ANY here.  These cuttings are the result of decades of his hard work.  He doesn't owe us anything.  And when the foundation is up and running, IT wont owe us anything.

Without Jon at the helm (about 70 years from now) the Board may decide that ebay is the best way to sell all of the cuttings.  Think about it.  Maybe there were 10 CdD Gris cuttings for us @ $6/cutting.  On ebay they go for $50/cutting or more.  $440 down the drain.  Most of the cuttings Jon sells are rare and valuable, whether you're aware of the value of some of the lesser known ones or not.  If you think about 1200 trees, perhaps a total of 15,000 cuttings at  a loss averaging at least $15/cutting that's $225,000 he's let go to fulfill his dream.  Or if it's 7000 cuttings with an average loss of $10/cutting it's still a $70,000 gift he's giving us.  That's more than some of us make in 2 years!  I'd like to hear more about how amazingly generous Jon is than musings on how I wont get this or that fig.

Cuttings were in the mailbox when I arrived home from work. Didn't get any the first round but scored in the second! Couldn't be happier. thank you so much jon this is an awesome thing you have going on here! Thanks, chad

Cuttings were in the mailbox when I got home from playing outdoors in the 55 degree sunshine. Both shipments. I appreciated that they were held till the last polar vortex sailed past.

Thanks again, Jon!

+1 for what Bob said.

Thank you Jon! Your generosity is inspiring.

I still have yet to hear anything from 2nd round. I just double checked my sent box, the order went out on the evening of 3/1.
I had some weak fall cuttings that didn't do well at all, I wanted to get more of that variety in stronger spring cuttings. Luckily one of them may just pull through...fingers crossed.

I just got the cuttings from my first order! Thanks, Jon!

My cuttings showed up yesterday as well.  A big thank you to Jon and the U.S. Postal Service!  I had been busy trying to come up with a plan in case they didn't show up until I was out of town and the temperature was supposed to dip into the single digits.

Hi Jon,

My cuttings arrived today.  Everything looked great.  Thanks again.

Got the St jean today Jon, thank you very much..

There are about 10 orders that are unpaid. They will be on Ebay soon, along with canceled items and leftovers.

Got my second order today. Thank you Jon, and all your helper, for all you did. I can't imagine what a feat it was.

Got mine today...

Aloha, Jon.  Got both orders in yesterday.  Patience is truly a virtue.
Mahalo for all you and your staff do!

Nate

Staff??? :)

Alan, I have one new rooted cutting of Violette Soleis, which I assume is the same thing, acquired as part of a trade with someone else (not Jon or Bass).  I think more people have it, just not very public about what they have.

Are there anymore cuttings left?!

A very few. Email me.

any cuttings left for fellow San Diegan

any Barnisotte. Emerald Strawberry, Gino VS, Italian Everbearing, Italian HOney AR, Marseilles VS or (3), Negronne FN, Mary Lane or Mary Lane Seedless left?
