Good day, well when I got back from my cajun trip, many of my trees had figs ripening. Ha, the brids could not eat them all!!! To name a few, Sal's, Hardy Chicago, Gino's, Martin's Unknown, Sal's Coreleone, Aldo, Smith, Reverse 314, Alma, Lamperia, Black Celeste, MVS, Celeste, Stella, and Hunt. I ate plenty, gave away plenty and made 2 cases of jam. There were 2 trees that stood out; Alma and Reverse 314. This year was the first time I ever tasted an Alma fig. My Alma is around 3 years old purchased 2 years ago from Durio. Alma is one of the first fig trees I ever bought back in the 90's from Ray. Back then, Ray prasied Alma and I bought a few trees from him. One was Alma and it did not survive over the winter in Georgia. My new Alma is now 3 years old. I planted Alma in the ground this Spring. The figs are very sweet and pleasant tasting. I really like the rich sweetness of it.
I purchase a Reverse last year and I was thinking this fig would be green but it's not, its reddish black and yellow inside. The leaves resemble VdB and a beautiful tree. The figs were not that sweet but I think they will get better over time. My tree is full of figs but last night the coons got in my tree and almost broke it trying to get to the ripe figs. I guess I need a trap for the coons now! Enjoy!
