Enough To Make A Grown Italian Man Cry...

Watching my last Black Madeira go from this:

I have been watching that Black Madeira since she was a baby...

Making sure she got enough sun.

Making sure not to over-water her.

Keeping her happy.

Heck, I even called her Bella...

And boy was she.

Today, I went up to the roof to say hi, and see if she was ok.

When I stepped onto the roof, I saw a Large Black Blur, swooping away.

I said Whoa! That's a huge bird, It looked like a Raven, or even a Vulture.

I live in Brooklyn, the largest birds we see are pregnant pigeons

Didn't think there were Vultures in Brooklyn, but if there are, that's what I saw flying away.

That's when I saw Bella...

Poor, Sweet, - well not quite sweet, a day or two at the most until she was ready - , Bella.

That black winged creature ate my Bella!

After all my careful care and attention, Bella hung limply and lifeless on her branch a mere shell of the Dark Beauty she once was.

Now your going to call me paranoid, or silly, but If it was a Raven or
Brooklyn Vulture, aren't they the " Calling Cards " of a certain how do I say it...  broom riding person?

What, just what if, even in Italy on holiday, she was able to get her " friends" to do her dirty work?

And I KNOW what I saw, it even mocked me by leaving me a parting " gift " next to Bella.

I know bird " gifts " that that was no small run of the mill bird " gift "
It was huge, like Large Raven huge , Large Vulture huge.

Poor, Poor Bella...

You forgot it is Halloween time.
Time for witches to appear in any form, shape and sizes....
And you have mentioned you have some in the neighbourhood.

PS/Edit: OK you knew it is broom riding time.

rip bella

Hi Nick.
I feel your pain.
Next year put a empty plastic berry container over the fig when it starts to swell, it mite work.
Vito

You should have used protection.

Sweet, Sweet, Bella.

You will be missed and not forgotten.

She was a thing of beauty.

Not high maintenance, or a problem fig like some others I have.

So little made her happy. A little sun and a well- draining pot is all
she needed.

Bella was one of the prettiest figs I have had the honor of knowing,

Picture Perfect. So well rounded and blemish free, I was going to
mark my final photos with a watermark: " Nick's Bella"

Alas, that was not meant to be...

She may be in some large dark-winged belly, but she will live on
this forum and my hard drive forever.

Ouch, Know exactly how you feel. I have been waiting two season's to sample my 1st Figo Preto and again I was beat by a darn squirl twice. I Too had tear's in my eye's specially since i said ahh better leave it one more day what a mistake.

ah.. only the good die young.. sorry to hear about your bella. at least with my paradiso gene, i didn't have to look at what was left of it.
