Enrico Red and GM17

In addition to the Dalmatie coming indoors I also brought these guys inside too...that's one way to foil those nighttime thieves!

So you bring the entire plants in their pots inside?...  Wow. That's love.

Do you have any idea what is stealing your figs?

Love or desperation I'm not sure which but yep inside for the next few days until they ripen then back out they go.

I don't know what is eating them. I've decimated the squirrels and the big tractor has scared off the rabbits for the last few days (or buried them deep in their hole). I'm thinking opossum or racoon. It has to be something that climbs because they get them even if I put them on top of a table.

Birds are a problem too. They got my first ripening Panache today so I wrapped it in bird netting. Can't bring it in cause it's planted. ;-)

That stuff is scary!  I'm hoping because figs don't normally grow in Michigan I'm safe.  I've heard Rafed mention tree rats, but I don't know what those look like.  Anybody in zone 6 have a wildlife problem?

Tree rats is a reference to squirrels. I think you've got a racoon problem too Sue. I've trapped them here in the city with Havaheart traps. Cat food is a good bait. Should also catch oppossums. Yes I've caught those too.

Smart thinking Sue, you just have to do what you have to do. I'd gladly find room inside for a few trees if I thought it would help. I picked a Sal's "gene" today that was perfectly ripe. It's the first truly ripe fig I eaten since the rains came and all the problems it brought. I was almost overcome, I was catching the vapors, ha. Sue, maybe it's your local mountain lion that has returned and he has a sweet tooth. Hopefully not, let it be a raccoon that you can maybe get rid of. Enjoy the figs. I'll be heading your way in 5 weeks and might try to make it over to your place. It's so nice out there.

Thanks for setting me straight.  Not too many squirrels where I live.  I'm in a subdivision surrounded by empty lots.   Anytime I hear anyone complaining about wildlife stealing their figs, they usually are in zone 7-10.  One of the very few benefits of growing figs up here maybe.

Well it should work unless the thief is your husband  :)

Sue,

I can't take it anymore!

Time to come out and confess! I've been stealing your figs!

Sorry

I was about to blame you too.

RAFED! Is that the lumbering tractor noise I've been hearing lately? I thought it was the neighbors.

All's forgiven. :-)

Sue,,,,

Sue!

You are learning the Fig Shuffle in a new way!! :-))

Suzi

Suzi, you're right! HA!
