Epsom Salt?????

I was wondering if any one has tried using Epsom salt on struggling FMV infected plants with any results? I was thinking of trying on my struggling black Madeira in half strength dose of 1/2 T to gal of water 2 * a week for 3 wks to see if there is any improvement. I plan on continuing using 1/2 strength MG once a week. Any thoughts. I have used in past with great results on Palm trees

Sal, I have put Epsom Salt around my inground fig trees to increase the magnesium in the soil.  I do not think it helped the FMV infected plants, but that is not why I use the salts.

Vern

the question in my mind is what is going on with the meristematic tissues in these stunted plants.  i would think that assuming you've got adeqguate nutrients, hormones would stimulate growth better.  i've started putting green light root stimulator/starter solution on mine.  superthrive is another thing i'm going to try.

if i can get it to break '"dormancy", i'll put it in the ground and really zap it with the nutes.  apparently this is going to be a great fig challenge :).

Sorry I should have been more clear not to cure the FMV but to try to jump start some of these hard to get going trees such as the Madeira. Vern did you notice any positive results and if you can at what dose and frequency are you using? Are you mixing in water or just put around plant dry and then water in? Did you soil test and did it show a deficiency in magnesium? I think the magnesium helps with nutrient up take if it was deficient but over doing it can have the opposite effect
Thanks

Mike this is what i have read in laymans terms about fmv and what it can do in severe cases . I keep this short cause i can ramble on and bore folks.
It effects the plants cells from multiplying and dividing fast like they should which makes the plant grow . But for some reason or another some plants are not as effected as others and some branches on plant as well .
Go Figure!

Its been my experience up to this point for several years with fertilizer and superthrive given to my ischia black no positive results as of yet but i'm stubborn too.

sal, if the soil/fertilizer you have grows ever other fig so well, how can this fig possibly be so deficient?  i think the answer doesn't lie in nutrients.  my black madiera has sat right alongside figs getting the same care, and they've all exploded with growth.  i just can't buy the nutreint deficiency theory.  something is preventing the meristem cells from dividing.

Mike look up a post we posted at same time.   ; )

isn't epsom salt one of the main ingredients in Miracle Gro?
