These green figs are the best tasting I have. When ripe, they give off a tropical fruit aroma that penetrates the senses. It has a smooth custardy texture on the tongue. It goes down way too easy.

These are the figs that my wife and I wrestle over. They start maturing now and go until frost.

There is nothing better than one of these in late November when all others have gone to sleep for the winter.

Just say the word...but only after the wrestling [between you and the misses is done]...

EDIT: I needed that edit for clarification (see FMD's post in #6)...

Yum, that looks tasty!  I can't wait till some of my other figs start maturing..  The biggest tree I have is a Celeste and its seasons so far have been pretty short. I would love to have a couple of in ground trees with figs that ripen over several months.

.. I think my fig fever is getting worse.

So, FMD, do you know the variety? It does look delicious.

Sir, hex1848...Miguel,

I am excited to inform you that what you have is *not* a fever. I repeat: it is *not* a fig fever. What you have is an unnamed virus. It manifests itself every time you see a fig photo, read a description, or even taste a bad fig. Note the Kathleen Black and Maltese Falcon thread, check out Dieseler's posts with nothing but photos of figs, and consider the accusations of Rafed suspecting the entire fig forum of stealing his fig tree that incredibly just up and walked away. All real examples of the virus that you have. It will spread and you will have more fig trees than you have space for...I promise.

Ken, I believe they are Green Ischia..

JD, no way I'm wrestling  someone half my age and twice my height! Especially some one with fig virus!

They have some  Ischia's at the Walmart on Thomasville road.. They don't say if they are Green or Black, but for $6 I think I'm going to chance it...

Well said JD. I resemble those remarks - LOL!

Good looking figs FMD! Your description makes them sound sooo good.

@FMD. I went back and edited my post (#2) for clarity. To reiterate, I am volunteering to "help you out" with the too many figs "problem" on your favorite tree but only after you and your wife have finished wrestling. Call me then. :~)

@hex1848. Thanks for the 411. I agree. Good gamble. How many Ischia were left? Last fall I picked up a $2 tree from Lowes. It's like a box of chocolates...

Very nice looking tree you have there Frank. I too have an Ischia Green with leaves like yours hopefully one day it will grow some figs.

I know. I know. I just need to make sure others know. Oh yeah, you're not that 'old' and I am not that young...or tall.

hey frank....i dont know too much yet about figs however i can tell you its never a good idea to wrestle with the wife over figs or fruits in general, any other dessert, shows, etc

A happy wife makes for a happy life,...but I'll be damned if she gets more of the green ischia than I.

Come on, that's just not right  (  ;:

wrestling with the wife can be fun... if you let her win

FMD,

Everything is equal with your wife. You divide it in half.
1 for you and 1 for me, 2 for you and 1,2 for me, 3 for you and 1,2,3 for me.

Question,
Isn't the Verte same as Ischia White?

@JD: There is now one Ischia left, along with a couple of Magnolias and one that's not labeled.  I ended up grabbing one of the two that they had this afternoon.

I remembered why I didn't buy one when I saw them the first time. The leaves have many brown spots on them. I'm hoping it's just from the stress of being at the Wal-Mart nursery, but I'm keeping it away from the rest of my figs for the time being just in case.

I'll post pics later.

hex1848,

When it comes to Walmart or other big box stores you are not dealing with pros at all.
The first give away is when they spray the water directly over the plants under the hot hot sun. They are cooking the plants.

This includes Home Depot and Lowes and many grocery store chains. They are in it for the money only.

So I agree with you about the brown spots, could be too much stress.

This is what the trees looked like at Walmart:

Stress?

Poor things will need intensive PTSD treatment in a loving home but should be just fine once out of the hellhole, aka Walmart Garden Center.

Have to agree with FMD.
The tree will be just fine. Needs just a little TLC.
