Ever see different leaves on same branch of fig tree?

Hi all,

I have been enjoying the forum for a while now and this is my first post.  I have two Black Mission tree in large pots on my patio and the figs should start to ripen shortly here in NJ.  A neighbor has what I believe is a Vern's Brown Turkey.  As shown in the attached photos, the tip of one of the branches has a different type of leaves than the rest of the plant (at the bottom center in the total plant photo, and in the close up photo).  Has anyone ever seen this before, and can anyone confirm this is a Vern's BT?  Thanks for your help!

Looks more like a Negronne or Violette de Bordeaux. Yes, they do that. Sometimes they will go a whole season with a different leaf, and then change back.

Thanks for your quick response!

My Black Mission is doing the same thing right now, skinnier leaves and now wide fat leaves.

I had the same experience with a Petite negri, it has two different type of leaves.

I can confirm,is not a Vern Brown Turkey but a Petite Black, same as the Plant, Park seeds is selling.
Not a Bad cultivar but a very slow grower.

Thanks guys for your responses.  How is a novice like myself going to identify fig varieties if the leafs of the tree can be different.  My mission figs are behaving themselves for the time being having had the same 5 lobed leaves for the past several years.  I'm seeing several opinions for my friends tree in regard to the species type.  I'm going to post pictures of the ripe figs from that tree when they are available to help nail down the type.  I have a cutting from that tree started in the spring that is now 3 feet tall.  He purchased it as a "Brown Turkey" and it had a breva crop of around 6 figs but I did not see them when they were ripe.  Thanks again for your input.

Jim
