Excel 2010

I saw this one turning on Tuesday. It is the one figlet that I did not knock off of this tree. Low and behold, it has chosen to ripen. It is another small fig. As the tree matures, I suspect the size will increase somewhat.

Heavy rains are threatening. No matter what happens, I should have something to show and say by Saturday.

Jon. It should be.

Jason: I got it from Encanto Farms b.k.a. Jon a.k.a. pitangadiego. one gallon pot. december 2009.

Marjo: check pitangadiego's link in the first reply to my post. yours looks like it is a UCD strain. this one appears to be "3-5" Accession. Jon what does that mean?

JD

PS: Here's how it came to me

Hey Mario my Excel looks just like yours did you get yours from Adriano as well? My Excel Is yellow

My Excell is Identical to Marjo.

I agree Herman. I was intrigued when this fig started to turn a glossy red color. Hence the title of this post.

If not Excel, then what fig is this? Once it is ripe, I will follow up with pulp photos. That should help.

There seems to be two versions of this Excel fig.
(EX/CEleste?)

Mine is (rather large) yellow/green skin with amber pulp fruit.
I just happen to eat one this morning and it was extremely
SWEET (pl. do not ask me what flavor; just think sugar).

Two drawbacks:
(a) Though it does give some figs, I would not call it "prolific";
it could just be me/care/etc.
(b) The eye is open - though I never recall of throwing any fruit out...

My came from UCD (via Gene_DC).

Size: smaller than expected; nickel-ish
Eye: not closed and oddly on the side...
Color: red skin & amber pulp
Taste: figgy
Seeds: very few

Maybe this is an Excel aberration but the leaves...I am waiting for Jon to chime in.

My tree came from Adriano
and they are vary large and sweet kinda like you said Nelson
and it was loaded this year I pinched and just about every nod produced a fruit
The only thing is that they get so large they split but I don't mine so much they are great tasting

The cuttings I got from Adriano today are from a tree same as Marios.
More bright Yellow but looked more flat than round.

Very very attractive fig tree.

I couldn't see an unripe fig go to waste as he took cuttings for me so I ate it. It was good.

Our Excel looks just like Mario's also: Same leaves; medium sized yellow fruit, light amber interior; sweet and good flavor.

Our seems to be highly productive too.  It is loaded with figs on every node, and even has two figs on one node, which I had never seen before.

I just picked the first ripe fruit from our two year old tree, and while the flavor was good, it may be even better with less rain.  With the two inches of rain we just got, and the previous 5 inches, we are now up to 7 inches of rain in just over a week.  We are up high so it drains pretty well here, but still the soil is saturated.

Best wishes to all.
