Excel fig

Excel [kadota hybrid / dottato hybrid]
This fig seems to have a lot of good attributes: why it it that it is not more widely propagated?
Does any member have any experience with this variety, good or bad?
According to the description, the tree performs well in most areas and the fruit is very good: why then the Kadota is more popular then Excel?

I found it to be a vigorous grower and a tasty fig in central coastal NJ for 2012 (potted).
I'm far from an expert though.
Go for it.

The answer is in your description of the fig 'Excel as hybrid of Kadota'. So, the original Kadota has been around much longer than the America hybrid of it i.e. 'Excel'.
The Excel is now gradually spreading.

I am renewing this post because I am also interesting, does anybody has to add on this subject?

Had it for four years in my back yard,in zone 6...it is NOT cold hardy, died to me at 15 deg Fahrenheit(inground) and needs a long and hot summer to get some ripe fruits. Now,he's resting in figs heaven....

It was plenty cold-hardy for me, for the last three winters it has been uncovered with little dieback.  Low temps around 7F.  The tree is not in a good spot for light however so not many figs have been ripening on it.  I just cut back a tree next to it so maybe I'll get more figs this coming year.
