I second your opinion of the Exell ( at least for this year) mine has been prone to splitting if the weather turns cloudy, the eye is large, the skin thick and the taste, ho-hum.  I will give it at least 3 more years as mine is only 2 years old,  a healthy plant and it has decent ratings.

Looks like the Excell needed a few days more to ripen. Give it another 2 years. I have an Excell that has 2 fruits swelling, looks like it takes forever. Will post once I get to sample it.

Thanks Guys

I think you may be right Paully but its been soft for over two weeks
I have a few more on the tree and they are large and look great
I'm just going to have to be patience and wait till they are ready to fall off the tree
There isn't much written on this type where can I find some information on this type of fig and where did it originate from

Regards,

The Excel,is from UCDAVIS,and it is much Better in Hotter climates, than Ontario Ca.
I think your will get better once it get older, but it will never be up to the potential it has in your cold climates.
Here in NJ,I had bad tasting one in the second year, and much better in the Third.
Then something happened and the tree died,so now I have another young one I am growing.
It barelly ,marginally, have enough heat in my climate, but northen than here,I do not think so.
I am on 40 degree northen latitude here.

Same experience for me here in N.Y.  It grew ok but the fruits taste was not worthy of taking up tree space so I got rid of it.

I find that it is really hard to judge when an Excel is ready to eat.  When it gets soft I find that it is still not very good to eat.  I have to wait until it splits a little before I will eat it.

Mine is bland and boring too -- even the critters agree.  They gobble up my Paradiso even before the fruit fully ripen, but the Excel is the last one to be eaten, and even then they don't eat them all.  I'm toying with cutting it down, but its shape and size fits nicely for where it's at.

Gene, you are right about the critters liking Paradiso figs.  I was working on my electric fence about the time my Paradiso figs were starting to ripen.  I forgot to turn the power back on the fence and the next day everyone of the Paradiso figs were gone!!!
