Excellent information regarding growing figs in pots.

I don't know why I didn't notice this until now, but in the Start Here: The Basics, FAQ, Recommendations, Links pinned thread, I found some really good, detailed info regarding figs in pots.  I've seen a few posts relating to the subject and thought this was worth putting in the spotlight for those that overlook things easily, like myself.

Also, if Bill is an active member here, just want to say THANK YOU for those great details!

great info thanx for sharing

Whew!  He puts a lot of work into those figs!  Great photos and explanations!  I think I have some root pruning to do!

Bills a good guy. But as good as his mushroom compost is, it is crazy heavy.  Not my cup of tea in the soil world.

I've been to Bills a few times. He is close to my house. You could not create better looking, healthier trees.

A few points about Bill's Figs:

1: He does not ship(if you want one of his trees, i'm happy to help out a member and i'll ship it to you, just pay for the material and shipping although I don't think he has anything "special"). You'll have to call him for his list of trees that changes yearly.
2: He sold me a Neri II last year that exploded with FMV a few weeks after I bought it home. All of his trees onsite are clean, so I suspect some of his scion is coming from an external source
3: Well worth the visit, but be prepared for the hard sell to buy his potting system.
4: If you are within a few hours, go buy a tree just for the invite to fig fest in the fall.
5: His Red Lebanese is NOT Bass's Red Lebanese(thanks to some members for pointing that out earlier in the year)

tim,

some cuttings, even from what looks like a health parent, will show FMV while rooting. once grown and has less stress, you might not see the FMV. but it's still there.
