Exciting arival from Italia :) "Barbara & Marcos Fig"

My neighbors just gave me a nice cutting of one of their Italian fig varieties. This fig variety was passed on to him  from his grandfather to his father and finally to him. The family treats this varieties of figs like trophy and they protect it in any way they can. Being so special to them I appreciate the fact that they trusted me with it and offered me to have a generous size of a cutting.
All the fruit are still on it but i could only taste one (which was only 90% ripe) and the other i had to cut for the picture to show the inside of it. After removing all the little figs and the yellowing leaves I end up with 6pieces of 6-7 inch cuttings. Their ends are dipped in paraffin and ziplocked in the fridge until I decide to bring 'em out and root them in a month or so.
I am so excited.

I look forward to seeing this variety grow and produce this multi generational fig, sounds exciting.

Still seeing the above video posting in all of your threads.

If your on a windows machine Microsoft website has what is called "Picture Re sizer" simple to use
and free.
Then you can post pictures related to your threads.

Great idea, no reason to tag all your posts with the same video. Putting your fig list in a horizontal format would be good too. ;)

If you're in iPhoto, you might try using FILE>EXPORT to save a copy as a small or medium JPEG (might be more web-friendly than TIFF).

got it, i just past from Apple store in the mall, they taught me how to.

I tasted these figs last summer, my friends Marco and Barbara store the cut figs in egg containers to refrigerate. They were very sweet and caramelie berry taste. Like nothing i tasted before, and mind you... I am from Mediterranean myself.

Nice fig, do you have photos of some leaves on a table before discarding them ?

For my five cents of the day, if just looking at the fig, green skin with white spots, rosy flesh - I would have called it "Dalmatie"  or at least, it is related to that strain , so hello cousin :)

Looks great.  Best of luck with it.  What do they call it?

Marcos does not have name for the figs, sadly... just calls them by the color.

You might want to ask them to name it.  They probably don't realize there are hundreds of named cultivars.  We have to have some way of communicating about it.

Hi,

I asked for photos of the leaves to compare them to the ones of my "Dalmatie"
My bigger Dalmatie make it leaves toward the sky sothat I have no decent photos of the leaves.
My second "Dalmatie" is the one on the right side - you can compare to the leaves of yours. On the left is one of my "unknown from the Italian".

the pics with leaves on top of this post is the original cutting with figs on it and leaves... it's just that leaves are yellowing due to the seasonal foliage. I'm not sure if they are like your Dalmatie.
BTW... the fig in the plate is not ripe completely, from what I recall at late summer, the figs I ate from the same tree were fore lighter green to yellowish green, and the inside were more pinkish light brown and full of honey.

Bob C (rcantor) you just gave me a great idea, that will be my way of thanking them for the cutting... I'll ask Marco , if he doesn't know the name, to name it.

leon_edmond: those are amazing figs Leon. I'm salivating here. What type of fig is that in your post, looks awesome...any cuttings? ;)

Three weeks ago I decided to root Barabara&Marcus U.Wht.Italian fig cuttings...out of total of 6 cuttings 2 are in one gallon pots already, I took picture of them before planting.

Wow, how exciting! those look great and what fun!

it's not Dalmatie/Stella/VS/White Greek. the leaf shape doesn't match. looks similar to Paradiso, but Paradiso doesn't have berry taste. caramel/honey, yes. good pix of leaf might help. one on the first post shows leaf already turned yellow.

we're going to have to wait until mature leaves come out and maybe I'll go to Barbara  and Marco to take some serious info and pics of the tree and fruit

Update: few pics of "Barbara & Marcos U. Italian Fig"

I am planning to pay a visit to the couple to get more picture samples of the mother tree and hopefully more info on History.
