Experiences with Texas BA-1

Last fall I bought a Texas BA-1 from Edible landscaping wich arrived with a good root system but this season its barely grown 3 inches. Is this common with this variety? Also noticed the majority of the leaves are deformed hard to tell what the leaves are supposed to look like.

It's fruit resembles an Alma. As such, it should be very fast growing.

Thank you Ruben, hmmm ya I have an alma and it is indeed a fast grower not sure whats up with my Texas-Ba1 even the growth looks a little to thin for my liking.

I just bought a Texas BA-1 off EL's website...they are having a sale on their figs.  Hopefully you can get more feedback from other soon.

Slow growing, no fruit.

I have a 6-7 ft. TX BA-1 that has been growing in the ground for a few years now and I stil have not eaten one fig from my tree.

I received this TX BA-1 (cutting) from a trusted forum member on 11 Jan 2010. It was potted up from a 1-gallon to a 3-gallon pot this spring because the roots were growing out of the bottom of the pot, and it was pinched and staked about three weeks ago. Nelson, Ruben, Jon, and Dan, will you post photos of the leaves, fruit, tree for comparison? I want to make sure that this is TX BA-1.

Oh wow JD you plant looks beautifull. I am moving this weekend but will try to get my mother to bring my plant to the new house tomorrow and will post pics.

Mine fruited last year. Red fig, very sweet. I recommend a little bit of liquid hormone. It will grow. Great tasting fig.

Ok here are the pics I was fortunate enough to have my mother come and pay me a visit at work today and bring me some VDB Breba's and brought the plant.

Hope That Helps

Hey Dan ..... are you growing it as a bush or singular tree?

It is growing in a bush form with three main trunks.

I had a same problem with one of my in ground bushes, except I had about 6 shoots coming up. This yr would have been 5yrs with ZERO fruit production, well last fall I decided to try something drastic...... I cut 3 of the shoots off, made a bunch of cuttings from the rest. To my surprise, this exact bush produced my very first breba crop EVER and it's currently loaded up pretty good with main crop. The only thing I can come up with is for whatever reason, the root ball size must have been too little for 6 shoots, with three gone it's cranking a decent crop for it's size (4feet).

May be something worth trying?!?!

You may be on to something. I will try this with a couple of my trees. Thanks for that information.  I let my Late Black grow into many trunks this year and I don't see any figs on that big fig bush either. It was producing when it had fewer trunks.
