I have been traveling and REALLY busy for the past several weeks. 3 weeks ago I started a couple Airlayers on my MBVS. Have not paid it much attention with my schedule and deicded I had better check on it yesterdsy.WOW, not only were the airlayers ready to cut (massive root growth) but the tree itself had exploded and started several (6+) new shoots that were in excess of 3 feet. I will have to try an airlayer on one of my slow growers and see if it spurred into action. ;o) Will have lots of cuttings this fall when I go to trim it.Thoughts?? Seems kinda late in the season.. Only thing I can think is some good rains may have carried fertilizer down to the roots?? oh yea It already had a good crop of main on it and these new shoots have a ton started that I will likley pull since I do not know if they will have time to ripen.

Good job Greg. Figs are just full of surprises. Some good and some not.
Greg,You will have many people hitting you up for those cuttings.... hint hint...
That's incredible! Beautiful tree, by the way. I'll have to try my hand at an air layer next year. =)
Jules I find it much easier and a better head start than cuttings
Arkansas, early Aug - I'd leave a few of those on. The plant's growing fine so it's not like you're going to hurt it.
Thanks Bob for the advice. I will try that. Tree I bought from you by the way! ;-)
Very nice. This one is in a dead heat for the top of my wishlist with VdB. I guess I'll just have to make sure I get them both ;-) I lived in Arkansas for a bit as a kid, near Memphis and also in the foothills of the Ozarks. My parents are still there. Really nice people there.
Really? None of mine are doing that well. If you won't send the tree back, how about sending a ripe fig? :) I hear a lot of noise in my yard. I think all my fig trees want to move in with you.
what have you been feeding that thing?
Bob, you are too funny. =) I'm definitely going to try to air layer a couple of mine. I'm so glad I found this forum, as I have gotten some great advice and pointers from all the wonderful people here.
its good to travel for 3 weeks and find much bigger tree.to me happens even if i dont see them in 2 days.
