Jason, Send me some please. I prefer brown wood but I can sort them out. I will root them and when a friends or family member visits and asks me for one I would be happy to give them one.
If the piece of the trunk/roots highlighted in yellow is still available, it can go straight into the ground or a container and be ready to produce more roots.~james

If you are going to go to the trouble of doing that, why not root and give away something common, but with much better taste? Something like Mission or Celeste or ??
Why would you want friends and family members to grow a tree to maturity that they will most likely end up not liking?
Unless you are joking. :)
Gina, I'm not joking. But all too often they ask on impulse and I later findout the tree I work so hard to keep up with ends up dead due to all sorts of neglect.
with all the bad press I read about brown turkey figs I'm starting to wonder if I made a mistake in getting one. Are all bt's as bad as people say?
You got it Rafed. Will split it up and ship it off, hopefully this week. Need to get Tony's mulberry cuttings out and still need to ship an LSU Black to FL for a forum member. Still got your Portuguese Dark, too! Two or three of em.
rookie. I haven't had a fig a didn't like, including BT. Use your own judgment and not someone else's. This is the problem, people are focusing on the ones that dis-like it but forgetting that there are many more that like it. I am willing to bet the majority of the ones that don't want it never tasted it. Location, climate, temps and many other factors play a roll on how a BT or any other figs tastes. Good luck
I'll do just that rafed especially since I counted 24 figs so far I'm hoping they're tastey. thanks for the encouraging words.
My purple unknown, which I think is a BT, produces GREAT figs, rookie. And lots of em.But Jason...You gave it a fair chance. 5 years is longer than I would have put up with it.
There are alot of different Bt varieties too. I have a good one. Problem seems to be it is so common, we all want the rare stuff, which do taste better, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at a BT fig,
Got it. That's why I gave my extra blueberry starts only to people I thought had half a chance of successfully growing them.
Must be the zucchini of figs … bland but prolific … maybe you could weave trellises with the figwood to support climbing plants, or make bentwood furniture? Like Rafed said, it's a good practice-fig. Or useful for grafting experiments? Lorrie
Say Justin, what color was the eye on those figs? Just curious. Will tell you why later.
Jason,
Did you ever get main crop photos from this tree?
Yeah, there are a few main crop photos floating around the forum. I can dig em up if you want. What you see in the pics above is the main crop (not quite ripe). Main crop is about 40% smaller in size, but same general characteristics and (surprise lack of) flavor.Dennis, eye on this was characteristically pink (also have some pics around here somewhere). You thinking this was actually Patrick's Giant or something? Or maybe that BT variant someone on eBay labelled "Bulls Balls" or whatever, because of the sheer size?
Jason,If it isn't too late send most of the cuttings to Rubin if not all. He was ahead of me and expecting all of them. Wasn't thinking,,,,,,,,,,again.
I only need a few, guys. Sounded like Jason saved a bunch. Thanks for being so thoughtful though, Rafed.
Y'all are both getting a bunch. Honestly, it'll
Thanks Rubin,I felt like I was stepping on your toes. I rather keep the peace and back off. We'll work it out bro.
Not a problem, Rafed. Free cuttings are not an entitlement. They are an honor.
I looked through all your posts containing the words "brown turkey" and found no pics of the main crop fruit. Can you post them so those of us getting cuttings can see/save them? Thanks!!

Jason, over the past year, I've been probing nurseries in my area for fig. Ninesty-nine point nine nine nine have Brown Turkeys. The real BT figs have pink eye so your tree was a BT. So, my goal is to find a true Texas Everbearing. Last year I bought 1 TE and 6 BTs all from different sources. Today, my trees have figs on them. The BTs all have pink eyes and are small. But my TE is full of white eye figs and they are large not small. It looks like my search is over. Now, that I have my TE fig, I'm getting ready to give away all of my BTs.
I would add this - this is the typical pinkness from mine (see green fig in the background): http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/file?id=1014975
Nelson's EBT also had a pink eye, see: http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1270311503&postcount=20
Here is Nelson's Monrovia BT, also has pink eye like mine: http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1270359414&postcount=26
Thanks, Jason!
You're welcome, Ruben
@Dennis, here are some pictures of the eyes of my Monrovia BT taken from October 2010.
