Fafard PM 4

Hi guys. Is anyone had any experience with this mix. This is the only Fafard mix that I managed to find a local nursery. Please share your experience.

I've used Fafard promix before, though I don't remember if it was this 4P formula.  I had good results with the Fafard product that I used.

I use fafard #52. I buy it in bulk as it's very pricey ($28 for 2.8 cu ft) at the local nursery. I love the stuff and so do my figs. I've never used the PM #4, but if your supplier can get that I'm sure they can get #52. Or, for all I know, maybe #4 is even better for what you're going to use it for. But I will say I'd highly recommend their #52 mix. Good luck.

Holy freakin' cow!  Do they put gold dust in it?

Never used any of the Fafrad mixes before. I have excellent results growing in Fertilome UPM and Pro-mix BX. Have to special order both of them though, $15 for a 8 quart bag of UPM and $45 for a 3.8 Cu ft of Pro-mix BX.

I use Fafard 52 mix too.
I pay $15.00 for the big bag,  think it is 2.5 cu ft. too.

I was using Fafard 3B for a long time and my plants loved it.  I'm now using their professional container mix.

I paid for this mix roughly $16 for the bag and the bag looks really big but is not heavy. I will let you know how its work. I am planing to use this mix for rutting cuttings.

Add lots of perlite and/or vermiculite if you want to root in it... rooting works best if there's lots of gas exchange (air and CO2) in the rooting zone. There is lots of info in lots of threads on here about rooting mixes, rooting chemistry, and that sort of thing.  Search on rooting or just go search out threads posted by Tapla (he's a member here who has lost of expertise in soil requirements, rooting requirements, and things like that).  (I think you can view the member list, find him, and look at postings he's made.  Or you can just use the search function and read what he and others have said.  I think there's good info in the reference section of the site too).

I buy Fafard #52 in bulk for $17 a bag now. I split a pallet with the local nursery. I have no idea how you guys get it any cheaper then that as 42 bags (1 pallet) cost over $13 apiece wholesale and if you add $25 shipping and state tax the nursery would have to give it away (they don't tend to do that). I did a Virginia statewide price search and it came out with a low of $22 and a high of $29+ retail.
I love Fertilome UPM also but it isn't available yet in Virginia. Fertilome sent me 6 eight quart bags to try and they did so for free. Very nice company and very nice product.
The outrageous retail price for Fafard #52 is not really that high if you look at similar products. Other professional mixes are about the same cost-wise. And the difference in fig growth and apparent health is considerable when compared to anything else I've tried - except the Fertilome UPM - but again not possible to buy here yet.
I did not check to see where the Fafard is made but perhaps those of you getting great pricing are locals to the plant.

We use fafard organic mix at work for organic vegetables, they seem to do a great job for what it's worth.
